Z Fold Heart Medallion Card Kit

 
Simplicity is elegance in this Z fold card,

the base shapes for which can be cut in one piece

from 12x12 paper stock and cutting capacity,

or in 2 pieces from smaller stock.

Accent shapes add background of interest,

with heart layered with offset contrast smaller hearts,

faux stitching detail and loopy lace edge.

Card measures approx. 4.25" x 5.5" when assembled

and folded.

Coordinates well with Env Heart Faux Stitch Flap A2.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes

A bi-fold card base

B front accent overlay

C inside panel overlay with XOXOXO cut outs

D-F doily heart medallion shapes

2. Layer the medallion shapes in order,

centering each so that the offset margin is

even all around.

3. Fold the card base as shown to create

the 'Z' formation with the narrow panel as front left.

4. Position and attach the front panel overlay with

narrow offset margin at edges and next to fold.

5. Position interior panel on the interior large

space, with narrow offset margin equal at edges

and next to inside fold edge, and with XOXOXO

cut outs at lower right corner as shown.

6. Position the assembled medallion so that the left

half is centered top to bottom along the front fold,

and the vertical centerline of hearts lies exactly

along the fold edge as shown. 

Apply adhesive only on the left half that will attach, 

then . . .

. . . glue in place. NOTE it may be easier to

accomplish positioning and attaching with card open.

7. If desired, position and attach the message

plaque on the backside of the front panel as shown.

It also could fit just opposite on the larger overlay

next to the card fold.

Valentine 3D Globe Dangler Ornament

Spherical ornament composed of “petal tab” circles, 

with twine-dangling thickened heart create

this seasonal ornament to hang from peg, 

chandelier, wreath, door knob, and more. 

Globe measures approx. 3” in diameter w

hen composed, with heart ornament 2.25” wide 

x 2.375” tall x .1875” thick. 

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:

A globe discs for top "row" or cap (5 up triangle)

B globe discs for mid "row" (5 up & 5 down triangle)

C globe discs for bottom "row" or bottom cap

(5 down triangle)

D hanger interior anchor ring (5 to stack for sturdiness)

E large heart front & back layers (2)

F large heart thickness layers (2 pairs of 2 each)

G large heart center layers with twine channel

(6-7 for thickness to match twine gauge)

H scalloped heart accent front & back (2)

I small heart accent front & back (2)

2. To test for the required thickness needed for large

heart dangler to properly enclose the twine you are

using, dry-stack the interior layers, then . . .

. . . lay the end of twine into the channel.

Next, place a plain heart "cover" over the stack

and the twine in channel . . .

. . . and feel to see if the plain heart bulges or

is displaced at all where the twine thickness is.

If there is a bulge, add one or more layers until

there is no bulge. 

RE-ASSEMBLY

3. Layer the plain edge accent hearts onto the scallop

accent hearts, adjust to make sure hearts are centered,

then glue in place. Press these, and all other glued-up

layer assemblies under a heavy flat weight until thoroughly

dry, which may require several hours or overnight.

4. Stack and glue together the tether rings, taking

care to align cut edges as precisely as possible.

5. Stack and glue together a "plain" front and back

assembly by layering the front layer plus the 2 

extra layers for thickness, adjusting so that all cut

edges are aligned as closely as possible.

6. Layer the channel interior hearts into a stack and

glue together, taking care to align cut edges.

Then layer the back plain assembly and glue in place.

GLOBE ASSEMBLY

7. Bend ALL petal tab-edge circles slightly forward

on the perforations.

NOTE: the circles will be identified as "up triangle" 

or "down triangle" units. If you are using a plain or

non-directional print card stock, the circles will be

completely INTERCHANGEABLE and will only need

to be rotated.

If you have a directional print like the sample paper

and wish to have the direction of the pattern consistently

show up in the same direction around the globe,

the layout direction of the circle shape will need to be

rotated 180 degrees to produce:

top row - 5 up triangles

middle row - 5 up triangles, 5 down triangles

bottom row - 5 down triangles.

8. Assemble the top row by noting the "up-triangle"

shape and positioning of perforations, then bringing

two discs side by side so that points of triangles

will meet at center top. Apply glue, then join the two

aligning petal tabs, taking care that the curved edges

of tabs are aligned as precisely as possible,

and that the perforation lines are likewise aligned.

(Double-check this and adjust as each new disc

is aligned and joined, before the glue is set.)

9. Position circle #3 next to previous pair assembly,

noting that up-triangle point is coming together where

the previous two points are, then position the adjacent

petal tabs, apply glue, and join.

10. Prepare and align the final 2 discs to the top assembly,

except DO NOT complete the final seam.

11. Cut a 4-5" length of twine, then thread one end

through thickened disc and begin . . .

. . .to tie a double knot. Before it is tightened . . .

. . . pull the loop that is being formed so that it is

a scant 1/4" longer than the edge of the disc,

then tighten the knot securely. This creates

the "picot" loop that ribbon will be threaded through.

12. At the final seam for top cap, slide the anchor ring

under the discs so that it will be inside the globe,

with the picot loop extending up through

the joining "opening" of the 5 discs that are coming

together. Then . . .

. . . complete the final seam.

13. For the middle ring, 10 discs will be used, with

the up-triangle and down-triangle directions

alternating across the assembly.

Join the 10 total discs in alternating order. . .

. . . adding one at a time to the assembly . . .

. . . to create a long row . . .

. . . like this.

14. Form the row into a ring to align and join

the final seam.

15. Cut a length of twine approx. 12" long, then

dble knot tie one end through the anchor ring 

that is inside the top cap. Leave the long length

hanging free.

16. Thread the twine end down through middle row

ring, then fit the cap onto the top of the ring so that

the petal tabs of each row line up.

Apply glue, then fit the tabs together, adjust for

accuracy, then apply pressure all around to secure.

17. Refer to Steps 8-10 to prepare a bottom "cap" 

with the final seam open.

18. Work the twine tail into the "opening" where

the bottom points converge . . .

. . . then align and glue the final seam of bottom cap.

19. Rotate to align the bottom cap petal tabs

with those of the middle row bottom edge,

adjust and glue as was done for top cap.

20. Working carefully so that top cap picot is

NOT pulled through to inside, place twine

into the heart dangler channel (thread on

decorative bead first, if desired), wind into

the circular recess, then trim excess away.

Add quick-grab adhesive such as Fabri-Tack

into the recess to attach and secure twine end.

21. Position the front large heart assembly

over the enclosed twine, recess, and backside

of the thickness hearts, adjust so that edges

align precisely, and glue in place.

22. Complete the dangler by positioning and

attaching the heart accent units onto front

and back.

23. Thread a length of ribbon through the top picot loop,

then bring ends together and tie a nice knot.

As desired, add additional embellishments.

Latch Bottom Boxes for Cupcakes or Treats

 
Large box measures approx. 4x4x4 when fully assembled. 

Three variations are available:

1) heart shaped  windows and clear vinyl lined, 

2) square windows which configures to open at box front 

to allow cupcake to be easily removed sideways,

3) 3.5"x3.5" cube plain box with no windows.

There is also a cupcake tray that fits into the 4x4 versions.

All of these have similar assembly steps, and will be

explained fully (square window box) or as variations noted.

Instructions will begin with Square Box, followed by

the cupcake tray at Step 11, 

followed by the Heart Window Box at step 18.

The Plain Box with no windows is assembled in

an identical manner as the Heart Box, but without

the window details and steps.

SQUARE WINDOW BOX

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:

A main hull with top and front

B hull part 2 with side and back

C contrast frame accents for teardrop cutouts - 3 sets

(NOTE these are the divided shapes option)

D front contrast scallop frame accent (3)

E front scallop frame overlays (3; should match hull)

F clear window panels cut from report cover plastic (3)

2. Prepare the main hull shapes by bending back on

all perforation lines for panels, flanges, latch panels, etc.

3. If you have cut the contrast frame underlays for

careful use of cardstock, you can prepare those now

by temp joining for easier manipulation and placement.

One way is to place face-down, match corner "seams"

and secure with small piece of cello tape.

4. Position and attach a contrast frame onto backside

of each window opening. NOTE that there is a tiny

offset margin between frame opening and the hull's

window edge.

5. Prepare the front scallop accents by layering and

attaching the hull-matched scallop frame on top of

the contrast scallop frame, matching up the window edges.

6. Position one scallop frame accent assembly over

front of hull main shapes window, matching

opening edges, and attach in place.

Immediately press flat on flat work surface with

a heavy flat object such as a heavy book volume

or equivalent, possibly with something else heavy

placed on top. Leave in place until frame adhesive

is thoroughly dry, for several hours or over night.

7. Prepare the clear windows by attaching clear

adhesive narrow tape at edges all around.

(The tape being used here has a paper backing.)

8. Remove backing paper if necessary, then place

the clear panel, centered, over the backside of

the hull panel. Complete for all windows.

9. Complete the hull assembly by aligning and 

joining first one side seam, then the other.

NOTE: Since the hull is a symmetrical form,

it can be flattened in order to more fully apply

fingertip pressure along the seams.

10. To close the latch bottom:

A) bend the front and back plain bottom panels

inward - these will overlap;

B) fold the shaped side flap inward and push down

so that the previously-bent flaps are moved beyond

perpendicular position which will allow rounded tabs

to slip into the curved slots;

C) repeat for second tab flap - it will overlap

the first tab flap - then . . .

. . . allow flaps to return to perpendicular position.

NOTE that returning to position may need a bit of

interior "push" to accomplish.

10. To close the box, the front panel bottom flange tab

is tucked inside the box form at front bottom edge.

CUPCAKE TRAY

11. Cut the two parts of the tray.

12. Bend back on all perforation lines for panels,

walls, flanges and tabs.

13. Join the two shapes at the side short seam,

taking care that the top panel (with circle cutout)

and the bottom whole panel extend in opposite

directions: top up, bottom down.

14. Form the assembly into a square "ring" to

align and join the second short side seam.

15. Bend the bottom flanges inward, apply glue

then bend the bottom down into position.

Square up the box to align properly with bottom,

adjust, and glue the three seams.

NOTE that it will help to reach fingertips into

the interior to apply pressure to secure seams.

16. Repeat the process to bend top edge flanges

inward, top panel down into position, adjust

and join seams.

17. Slip the cupcake into the opening for presentation.

Here it can be seen how the tray fits into the square

window box to easily allow cupcake insertion and . . .

. . .removal without needing to touch or damage icing.

HEART WINDOWS BOX ASSEMBLY

18. Identify and cut the shapes:

A & B hull shapes

C interior contrast shapes for teardrop cutouts (3)

D clear window panels cut from report cover plastic (3)

E front scallop frame overlays (3; should match hull)

F contrast scallop frame accents (3)

19. Follow the same procedures for the heart window

box design as for the square window box, keeping

in mind that the heart box has windows on

front & side panels, referring to Steps 2, 4-10.

20. Join the hull shapes at side seams, following

Step 9 for square window box, then finish

and latch the heart box in the same manner. 

Fill with candy or other treats and . . . 

. . . close the box lid.
