Honey 3D Disc Dipper

Replica dipper wand is the perfect companion
to the “Beehive 3D Form with Compartment” and
“Honey 3D Jar” or "Honey Jar 3D Hex Form"
separate designs.
Head is assembled from stacked and glued-up discs
and spaced to suggest wood turned segmented ribs.
Strength is provided by .25” wood dowel cut-to-size length.
Use amber-colored hot glue to simulate honey puddle,
if desired. Dipper measures approx. 4.5” tall x 1” wide (at head).

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A handle post wrap
B spacer strips
C disc stacks (*7-8 layers for 2 each of 3 sizes)
D top end cap disc (2 layers ea. of 3 sizes)
E bottom flange "cap" disc (2 layers ea. of 3 sizes)
F *test strips and test slot
*See Step 2
2. Use the test strips to determine how many
layers cut from selected paper stock for disc layers
will fit into the slot, thereby matching the glued-up
disc thickness to match the spacer depth.
For example, the card stock used for this sample project
could fit through the test slot as a stack of 7 layers.
3. For each of the disc layers, stack and glue together
the determined number of layers from Step 2, taking care
to align ALL cut edges as precisely as possible,
especially the inner hexagon window which must
be precisely aligned in order to fit over the hexagon post.
As each stack is glued up, immediately place on flat surface
with heavy flat object placed on top to press until
the stack is completely dried.
4. Repeat the process for the top cap layers, stacking
the two layers of each of the three sizes separately,
then pressing until dry.
5. Repeat for the bottom "cap" stack, taking care
again with the interior hexagon openings for
precision alignment of cut edges.
Press under heavy weight until dried.
6. Center and stack the three layers of the top cap into
a combined stack and press until dried.
7. Center and stack the three layers of the bottom "cap"
into a combined stack with opening edges aligned
precisely, and press until dried.
8. Center and attach the bottom "cap" stack onto
the smallest regular flange stack (bottom-most of the
three lower sizes), taking care to continue to align
hex opening edges precisely.
Press until glue is completely dried.
9. Repeat Step 8 for the top cap, attaching to the smallest
regular flange stack (top-most of the three upper sizes).
10. Prepare the spacer strips by bending on the perf
lines so that each can wrap around the post stick.
11. Prepare the post wrap by carefully bending along
the series of vertical perforation lines for each long
facet and long side flange. Also bend back the bottom
end "cap" attached hex shape.
11. Form the post wrap around the uncut length of
.25" wood dowel, forcing it to wrap tightly enough
so that the plain straight side edge can overlap
across the opposite flange to perforation line,
then glue the edge in place to complete the seam.
12. Prepare the measure to cut the dowel to length
by pushing the bottom end even with post bottom
edge, then . . .
. . . marking the opposite post end edge location onto
the wooden dowel. Remove dowel from wrap.
Use small household or coping saw
to cut the dowel to length.
13. Re-insert the dowel into the wrap, apply glue to
bottom dowel end, then bend the end hex into place
to hide dowel end.
14. Thread ALL of the discs onto the top end of
the post, beginning with bottom "cap" disc
then in sequence order: lower medium width,
largest pair of discs, upper medium width. Then . . .
. . . apply glue to the top end of post, position the top cap
onto the post end (fit post end into the hex recess) and . . .
. . . hold in place until secured.
16. Apply glue to post right under the top cap.
Position the first spacer strip below the top cap disc,
wrap around post with perf cuts aligning at post ridges,
and glue in place.
NOTE it may be helpful to use a blade tool such as
this spatula to help slide the strip into position and
assist it to grab and hold as intended.
17. Add glue to post next to the first spacer strip,
then slide the next disc up the post until it rests
snugly against the strip. Check for parallel positioning
relating to top disc, perpendicular positioning
to post face, then allow to dry in place until secure.
18. Repeat the process with second spacer strip,
then slide next disc up, etc. until all discs and bottom "cap"
are in place. Check for parallel positioning and
perpendicular positioning as each is positioned and glued.
Here is the completed honey dipper wand.
If desired, and product is available, consider artistically
adding yellow or amber colored hot melt glue "drips"
as shown here.
