Patchwork Star Tag



Medium-sized gift tag or folk art decoration features 
faux-stitching at main tag edges, 
contrast underlay for main tag (shows thru stitches), 
layered shapes that create variable star classic patchwork block 
with top twine hole, “shine on” welded words 
(watch out for ‘I’ jot and separate ‘!’ staff). 
Ribbon slot included at tag top with decorative 
“reinforcement” ring. Small envelope is also included 
to attach to tag backside to contain gift card 
or folded cash gift. 
Tag measures approx. 3.5” wide x 6” tall.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A tag front shape
B tag back shape (shows thru as stitching)
C ribbon slot reinforcement ring
D shine on! welded word cuts (be sure
to retain the 'i' jot and exclamation mark stem)
E patchwork star base
F middle layer contrast on point square
G front contrast square
H block tag base   I block tag middle layer
J block background front panel
K gift card or cash envelope for tag back
2. Assemble and patchwork star:
A) layer & attach tag accent shape on top of base shape,
aligning hole punch circles, with edges slightly offset;
B) layer on point square so points "touch" the star
point valleys cut edges and attach;
C) layer and attach center square.
D) position patchwork star at center of block base
(top background) shape, with star points "touching"
the base edges, and glue in place;
E) position (centered) star block/base assembly onto
frontof block base/accent and attach.
3. Position and attach contrast back panel behind
front tag shape, with outer edges and slot edges aligned
as precisely as possible.
4. Position reinforcement ring onto tag front header
with interior edges of slot aligned, and glue in place.
5. Position the block on front of tag,
centered side to side, with bottom block
edge and tag bottom edge lined up,
or nearly so, and make a pencil mark through
twine punch hole.
6. Position/arrange the shine on shapes onto tag
front, centered, above where top of block tag
will be attached, and glue in place. Don't fail to
keep track of the 'i' jot and the exclamation mark stem
and glue in appropriate places.
6. Prepare the optional backside envelope for gift card
or folded cash money gift by bending forward on 
all perforation lines.
7. To assemble, fold side flanges toward center back,
overlap, and glue together where at overlapped edges.
Bend the bottom flange upward and attach.
8. Position, centered side to side, and with
matching offset margin at envelope bottom edge,
and attach in place. 
9. Add ribbon cluster cockade to top ribbon slot,
and twine tie to block top at punch hole.
Position and attach block tag where previously
positioned to mark punch hole. Consider using
a few self-adhesive foam squares for dimension.
10. Once gift card or folded cash
is inserted into envelope, fold top flap down
into position and "seal" with a sticker.
