Tag Sugar Plum Fairy

Large scale gift tag to adorn a Christmas gift for a dancer
or Nutcracker fan, or to hold a gift card in small attached
envelope mounted on tag backside.
Build youthful ballerina front layered body with
vellum layered wings on clear base,
add dimensional half ring snowflake tutu skirt,
then center on layered tag front and base.
Tag measures approx. 3.5” wide x 7.5” tall.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A silhouette base front (reversed from assembly shapes;
NOTE that this shape has been modified to separate
left leg/tights)
B right leg/tights
C torso/head (shows thru as arms)
eye & mouth contrast insets
E face
F hair, hair band
G & H right & left slippers and ribbons)
I leotard base (shows as straps)
J leotard overlay
snowflake skirt ring
L wing clear base with vellum overlays
(NOT SHOWN: silhouette assembly base)
2. Assemble the dancer front shapes:
A) align and attach torso/head, tights to base;
B) insert and attach eye contrast, mouth contr. shapes;
C) overlay hair with band on face shape;
D) overlay slippers over ribbon bases;
E) overlay leotard front onto base;
F) align and attach head assembly, slippers
assemblies, leotard assembly onto main silhouette.
3. Press assembly under a heavy flat weight
until dry (several hours or overnight) to help
the shape dry flat, avoid warping or curling.
4. Prepare the half-ring snowflake skirt by bending
back end flanges and gluing in place on skirt backside.
Bend and crease pleats at partial perforations.
Bend the "long" perforations at center of long extensions
as MOUNTAIN folds, "short" perfs as VALLEY folds.
5. Thread a 12-14" length of perle cotton or twine
onto a blunt tapestry needle. Insert from front-side
through pair of holes on each side of "long" pleat
as shown.
Pull through, leaving a short tail for tying,
then continue in same manner . . .
. . . to gather stitch to opposite end of waist edge.
6. Cinch skirt edge up to fit across dancer assembly
at waist level, then . . .
. . . secure twine ends by folding around side edge
to skirt backside and securely gluing in place
using quick grab glue. Trim excess gather threads.
7. Using an appropriate clear adhesive, position
and attach bottom smaller "leaves" over clear base
where edges align, then position and attach
top larger "leaves". If desired, cut duplicate "leaf"
shapes for the reversed side of clear base.
 Position wings assembly, centered behind upper portion
of dancer assembly then attach in place with clear adhesive.
Here is the assembled sugarplum fairy.
8. Layer and join the front and back tag base shapes,
taking care to align cut edges as precisely as possible.
9. Position front offset accent shape onto front
of base assembly, with even offset narrow margin
all around, hang holes aligned.
10. If desired, prepare the gift card or cash mini
envelope by bending side panels inward, bottom
tab upward and gluing in place.
11. Position mini envelope onto tag backside, center
and glue in place (keep top fold-over flap free).
When ready for gifting, insert gift card, then . . .
. . . fold top tab down into closed position.
Position and attach snowflake "seal" to keep
flap closed and secure.
12. Position fairy assembly (centered side-to-side
and top-to-bottom) onto tag front.
Prepare and attach top ribbon cockade if desired.
