Classic
small gift box with fold latch bottom is designed
to hold a 3D slice-form jingle bell as lid embellishment .
Lid modifications for holding bell securely in place
include
three slots for bell back slice edges plus fit-through
punch tab for
tying onto bell.
Box measures approx. 4” wide x 4” long x
2” deep when closed.
Jingle bell measures approx. 1.875” x 1.875”
(plus top tab) when assembled.
ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A hull back/side with lid
B hull front/side
C lid "icing" scalloped circle and square
E "icing" wide wall trim rectangle (3)
D "icing front wall trim rectangle
Q under-lid reinforcement disc
R push-through tie-on tab
F-M jingle bell slices with cut-in numbers 1 thru 8
N holly double leaf stem
O holly berries trio base plus 2 individual circles
2. For jingle bell assembly, follow this LINK
and complete Steps 1-9.
BOX ASSEMBLY
3. Prepare the two hull shapes by bending back
on all perforation lines for wall, top and bottom panels,
and tabs.
4. Line up the two hull shapes to overlap for the first
side seam, with straight edges overlapped to perforation
line, adjust for top to bottom alignment, then glue seam.
5. Invert the shape and attach the reinforcement
shape behind the lid, carefully aligning
the three long and one short slots as precisely
as possible.
6. On front side, position and attach the "icing"square frame, centered on the lid panel,
and then center and attach the scalloped
the remaining rectangular or thumb arch accents.
as shown, back at center mark, and forward
and allow all bottom latch panels to depress inward
until the tongue extension can slip behind . . .
Push the bottom down into perpendicular position.
13. Slip interior accent bottom panel into place.
(Box can be un-assembled and stored in
its flattened position. If this is desired, leave bottom
panel loose; if assembly is "permanent" glue in place.)
14. To close box, fold top lid panel down and tuck
front flange tab behind front wall as shown.
15. To finish with bell topper attached, identify
back center "slice", and the slices on each side
of it, then slip each into corresponding slot of lid,
compressing each in as needed . . .
. . . so that side slices will slip into slots.
16. Align the bell's top tie-on tab with box tab . . .
. . . then tie with twine threaded through both
punch holes. (Model project uses double strands.)
Here, the lid is being re-closed.
And here is the completed project.
Jingle bell can be detached and used as ornament. etc.
