Poinsettia Petal Swirl Top Box

Make this gift box’s sides extra festive with
designer paper print rectangles,
this sample from Graphic45 St. Nicolas
Collection/St. Nicholas
(design prints not included in file).
Shapes included for cutting alternate
two-layer accent print panels.
Gift box features six top extensions that swirl closed
to form a stylized poinsettia blossom.
Tiny punch holes allow twine to thread through
to figuratively “cinch” box closed
then tie with knot and bow.
(A fussy-cutting, view finder “frame” is included
to help size the 1.75” x 2.6” cameo squares.)
Box compartment measures approx. 3.25” tall
with 2.25” x 2.75” base.
(Requires 12x12 cutting capacity and stock for box hull.)

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A hexagonal box hull
B interior box bottom panel
C exterior box outer bottom cover
D fussy cut Santa stamp panel with
narrow trim section (cut 3 sets)
E contrast wall panel with accent
overlay (cut 3 sets
2. Using scissors or straight edge and rotary cutter,
the cameo "stamp" rectangles (and narrow holly trim)
shown in the sample were cut from Graphic45 paper.
The cameo fussy-cut squares were taken from
Graphic45 St. Nicholas Collection/
St. Nicholas #4501397.
Accent wall panels were cut from backside.
This is the full size sheet front, below.
3. Prepare hull shape by bending back on vertical
wall segment perforation lines and for the horizontal
line that separates lower and upper portions.
Bend diagonal perforation lines that form the twist
top closure as valley folds.
NOTE that is may be helpful when folding the diagonal
lines to pinch the vertical line upper portion
and then bend the lines to more easily stop
the lines from continuing into the lower portion
of the hull.
4. Prepare the alternate outer wall decoration
rectangles (either 3 sets as shown in this sample,
or 6 sets if using all around the box) by centering
the accent shape on the base shape and attaching.
For the designer paper fussy-cut panels used in
this sample, the stamp panels were trimmed just
beyond the panel's border edges, and the narrow
holly border was cut at color-change "line", then
the motif strategically selected and trimmed just
longer than stamp panel width and centered
above the stamp panel.
5. Form the prepared hull into a tube to overlap
and align the straight side edge across flange tabs
to perforation lines in lower and upper segments,
adjusting for top to bottom alignment, and join seam.
6. Complete the box assembly by following Steps 7-8, 10-11
at a post for a separate, similar project
HERE. These steps will demonstrated how to place
the bottom interior and exterior bottom hexagons
in place, how to close the twist top,
and how to thread the twine through "cinch" holes.
