Four Drawers Box with 3D Flower

Interior walls create corner compartments where
four small drawers slide in to fit snugly (and provide
more structure strength at the same time).
Accent shapes give scope for adding
your own special touch. Card stock build-up
knobs with brad provided in the cut file.
Or, use purchased metal "hitch" knobs,
as shown on the sample.
(Requires 12x12 cutting capacity.)
Measures approx. 5.75" wide x 5.75" deep x 2" tall.

Add on the dimensional flower design topper,
sized to fit the four drawers box,
to create a festive display or gift.

.
Above, the ensemble in closed drawers position.
Below, get a peek inside.
ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A box top (with 'T')    B box base
C wall section 1 with upper half end tab
D wall section 2 with lower half end tab
E & F wall sections 3 & 4 with full end tab
G & H top and base "covers"
(eliminate the top "cover" if
preparing the 3D flower topper)(
I drawer shapes (4)   J drawer fronts (4)
K knob stack circles (4 x 10)
L & M wall accents to layer
N drawer front accents
Shapes for optional flower topper:
O build up top base layers (4-5)
P contrast base layer with decorative accent
Q bottom petals shape  R top petals shape
S "fringe" bottom and top layers
T dimensional center
U center accent and contrast show-thru
2. Prepare the top and bottom base shapes
by bending back the edge tabs.
NOTE that the 'TOP' shape has a small 'T'
cut into one of the tabs for identification.
3. Prepare the wall sections by identifying
the sections 1 & 2 (down arrow
and square cutouts), and sections 3 & 4
(circle punches). Bend wall top, bottom
and end tab flanges back, top and bottom
small tabs back, and inner end tabs back.
4. Position and attach the accent layers
to the outer wall portion of each wall section
(where the tab flanges will surround
on three sides).
5. Prepare to join sections 1 & 2 by arranging
inner ends as shown, down arrow tab on
the bottom . . .
. . . then overlap tabs on opposite wall so that
the non-tab edges are snugly next to each other,
and glue tabs in place.
6. Position wall section 3 with perforation line
of inner tab at the center seam of 1 & 2,
and glue in place.
7. Repeat to align and attach wall section 4
on the opposite side of the 1/2 assembly,
to create an 'X' arrangement as shown.
8. Identify the box 'TOP' shape with the 'T' cut,
then . . .
. . . position over the walls assembly and insert
wall tabs through corresponding slots,
pull fully through . . .
. . . bend counter clockwise, and glue in place.
9. Bend the outer wall portion of each
wall section end into position to fit the tab flange
over the edge of the base, make sure the
base edge fits and stays snugly into the perforation
corner, and glue in place.
Reach inside the drawer compartment to apply
pressure to secure the tab flanges in place.
10. Repeat the processes for step 8 & 9 for the
base shape.
11. Position and attach the bottom and top covers
to conceal the tab construction.
(NOTE the top cover can be omitted
when if you are constructing the flower topper
which will include enough "cover" itself.)
12. Prepare the drawer boxes by bending
back all wall, flange and tabs on perforation
lines. (NOTE: the shape is shown face down here.)
13. Bend adjacent walls back to align side plain
edge at opposite tab perforation line,
and join side seam. Repeat for remaining 3 sides.
14. Bend the side flange tabs back - front and back
first, then sides  . . .
. . . and glue to the inside wall
surfaces.
NOTE that it will be helpful to place on a flat surface
to apply finger pressure from the inside.
15. Prepare the knob stems (4) by stacking
carefully aligning edges and punch holes,
and gluing each of 10 shapes into a knob.
Here is the completed knob.
16. Layer the drawer front and accent shapes,
and glue together.
NOTE it will be helpful if using liquid adhesive
to use a flat weight to press the drawer fronts
to keep them from warping or curling until
completely dried.
17. Position the front unit over a drawer unit . . .
. . . glue a knob stack in place, then secure
with a regular size brad through all layers.
(Or, as the finished model images will show,
use a "Hitch Fastener" like these from
Tim Holtz. NOTE it may require stacking
and gluing several of the knob circles
on the inside of the drawer behind the front's
punch holes to help the hitch tighten properly.)
Insert the drawers into their cubbies.
NOTE that this is a tight fit.
TIP: to open the drawer, begin by
pulling the knob to expose a bit of drawer,
then hold the sides of the drawer to pull
completely open.

DIMENSIONAL FLOWER TOPPER
18. Prepare the flower center by bending back
on all panel and tab perforation lines.
19. Bend two of the trapezoid panel angled edges
back until they align with the plain edge
overlapping the adjacent wedge tab
perforation line, and glue the seam.
Repeat for the remaining angle seams.
20. Complete the final seam in similar fashion,
bringing together the lower side straight edge
and straight tab perforation to join,
then completing the angle seam.
21. Bend the top attached hexagon down
over the bent-inward top tabs, adjust for
alignment, and glue in place.
22. Prepare the top and bottom petal shapes
by bending forward (top shape only) on
the perforation lines parallel to the slots, then . . .
. . . adding some backward curl to the center part
of each petal . . .
. . . and finally some upward curl at the tips.
23. Prepare the "fringe" rings unit by layering
the rings together (take care that slot openings
align as precisely as possible).
Add a little bit of curl or variation to the stand
of the individual strands.
24. Assemble the flower unit by first
inserting the center's tabs through the fringe
ring slots, then . . .
. . . inserting tabs through top flower layer,
then  . . .
. . . through bottom flower layer.
(NOTE that the dimensional flower
could be completed independent of
the squares base and accent at this point
in the assembly, simply bending the tabs
back and gluing in place on bottom petals
layer backside.)
25. Prepare the topper square base unit by
layering the accent on top of the contrast base
square, making sure that the slots line up
exactly, . . .
. . . then inserting the tabs, and bending
outward to attach to the base backside.
Reach in with fingers (under in this pic)
and thumbs on the top to apply pressure
between to secure tab attachment on backside.
26. To give the box more heft
and build up the top layers as a "rim",
carefully layer the multiple top
build-up layers, pressing under
weight to keep flat and unwarped
if using liquid adhesive.
27. Position and attach the topper
decorative unit to the build-up layers.
28. Position and attach the topper unit to
the top of the drawers unit.
NOTE that there is a 1/16" overhang by
topper base beyond box edges.

  1. This is beautiful. Note the link from Silhouette doesn't work, because the 'n' is missing from the beginning of the link

  2. Loved making this cutie. Did mine in Graphic 45's Vintage Hollywood and used some metal feet and handles for it. Didn't make the top flower though cause I wanted the gorgeous picture of the papaer to show. Thanks for a fun design :-)
