Tulips Dimensional Lid on Bride 3D Box

Versatile storage or gift box that measures
approx. 7" in diameter x 2.5" tall.
Offset side, lid side and top accents can feature
favorite paper prints.
Or, adorn the top with octagonal mats:
"Penn Dutch" or "Leafy Swirl".

For an especially fancy version,
create dimensional "slice form" three-part
tulips with vine underlays in
"Tulips 3D Slice Form Lid Decoration" design.

BOX ASSEMBLY is shown first.
TULIPS LID DECORATION begins
at Step 15.

ASSEMBLY:  1. Identify and cut the shapes
for the bride box:
A box lid base   B lid accent octagon
C lid side accents (8)
D box base bottom hexagon
E box base side panels (2)
F base double section side panels (4)
Identify and cut the shapes for the
tulip lid decoration:
for each of 4 blossoms:
G slice form tulips - 9 shapes
H slice form tulip center orbs - 8 shapes
I slice form top petals - 9 shapes
***
J center platform (changed to dark blue in project)
K platform top decorations
L accent dots large (4)  and small (12)
M lower vine flourish shape
N upper vine flourish shape
O offset base shape
(D box lid octagon where decorations
are attached)
2. Prepare box lid by bending back on all panel
and side wall tab perforations and edge flanges.
3. Position and attach the accent shapes to
lid base (easier while the lid is flat).
4. Bend two side panels back into position so that
the straight edge of one overlaps the side tab
to the perforation line, and glue in place.
5. Repeat for the remaining 7 seams,
taking care at the last two seams to prepare
to position both ends at the same time
to reduce stress on final seam.
6. Bend back edge flanges and glue in place
to the inside of the lid to create sturdy rim edges.
7. Prepare the 2 base side panels by bending
back on all panel edges and bottom flange tabs.
8. Join the two sections together with a center
seam by overlapping the straight edge of one to
the perforation line of the other, adjusting
height as needed for proper alignment.
9. Begin attachment of the base side assembly
to the bottom octagon by positioning one end
bottom flange tab perforation along the edge
with ends aligned, and glue in place.
10. Continue to bend and adjust the wall section
to position and join successive flange tabs
to base with perf line exactly at octagon edge.
NOTE that this may be easiest to accomplish
by swinging the wall away from the base
and applying glue to the octagon margin at edge,
then re-positioning corresponding segment . . .
. . . and applying finger pressure along the tab
from the inside of the box as shown.
11. When the final wall section is being placed,
also position the final wall-to-wall side seam
and attach in one step.
12. Prepare the side wall accent shapes by
bending back at the center.
Position and attach to a pair of adjacent
outer wall faces with perforation lines aligned,
and with side and bottom edges offset approx 1/8"
from panel edges.
13. To complete the box, fit the lid over the
box base and slide down into position.
NOTE: This is a very tight fit which may be
further affected by heavier weight cardstock
used for lid, base or accent overlays.
If needed, the box base may be re-cut
and re-made at a reduced size,
99% or 98% with locked aspect ratio.
14. Consider other lid decorations, including
either of the doily mats that are designed
specifically for the Bride Box design.
(Shown here: Doily Penn Dutch Octagon.)
TULIPS LID DECORATION
15. Lay out the 9 slices for the tulip blossom
as they are removed from the cutting mat
to preserve identifiable order,
shown here as reference.
16. Prepare the slices by bending forward
at center perforation lines or tiny perf cuts.
17. Begin with slice 1 (left) and slice 2, position
backside of corresponding halves so that
all cut edges that align will match up,
then glue together, taking care to achieve
"perfect" edge alignment at each step.
To assist alignment, bend all halves into a stack,
with center folds visible, and adjust so that
the folds are precisely lined up end to end,
and along perf lines. Apply pressure
to lock in the alignment.
This is how the unit will look with
slices 1 & 2 joined.
18. Prepare to add slice 3 by lining up it's first
half surface to the second half surface of
slice 2 as shown, then repeat the attaching,
aligning, stack-folding to check for perfect
alignment, etc., as described above.
19. Continue in this manner to position and add
slices 4 through 8, taking care to stack-fold check
and adjust after each slice is added.
20. Prepare the center orb slices by bending
forward at center perforations.
21. Position and join 8 slices by attaching
corresponding half back surfaces in manner
similar (but simpler) to tulip slices as
described in previous steps.
As with tulip slices unit, take care after
each slice is joined to stack-fold to check
for "perfect" alignment, as is shown here.
22. Prepare to join the center orb unit onto
the tulip assembly by stack-folding tulip unit
to expose the unattached orb half shape
of slice 1.  Position the unattached half of
orb slice 1 over corresponding tulip shape . . .
. . .and glue in place, adjusting so that the orb
stack fits snugly between the "end" stacks
of tulip, with perforation edges even and aligned.
Apply pressure in this format until joint is secure.
23. Position the final tulip slice 9 with lead half
aligned over backside of unattached slice 8,
adjust for positioning, then attach both petal
shapes and corresponding orb half shapes
at the same time.
Stack-fold to check for alignment as before.
This is how the blossom slice form appears
when complete, viewed from top.
24. Prepare the top petal slices by bending
in half at center as for center orb shapes.
25. Position and join the 9 slices into a stack unit
as described for the center orb stack.
When all the blossom slice form units
are complete, they will fit together
and fan open in this configuration.
26. Prepare the base decoration by positioning
the bottom layer vine shape over the offset accent
with the tip curls positioned into corresponding
shapes of the offset as shown. Glue in place.
27. Position the top layer vine shape over
the assembly, matching corresponding tips
to offset base, also taking care to align the slot
cut openings of base and vine center.
Glue in place.
28. Prepare the platform shape by bending
back on panel and side seam tab edges,
bending forward at edge tabs.
(NOTE that this shape was changed in the final model
to dark blue to match the top nova decoration shape.)
29. Bend the side panels into position to
overlap straight edge to perforation line,
and glue in place. Repeat for 3 more side seams.
30. Position platform assembly over base decoration
assembly and insert tabs into slots, push through
completely. Then . . .
. . . bend tabs outward on the underside
and glue in place.

31. Position and attach accent base assembly
onto box lid shape (shown here as separate
from the lid assembly; more normally
this step would attach accent to completed lid.)
Position tulip blossom onto decor base
with petal tips aligned inside corresponding
offset base shapes, also with bottom end
abutted at platform wall, then glue unattached
halves of slice 1 and 9 in place onto base.
To assist with the attachment, it may be helpful
to use a tool such as this spatula tool to reach
in between slices to apply pressure in place.
32. Position and attach top petal slice form
above blossom in similar manner.
33. Position and attach remaining 3 blossoms.
34. Prepare top decorations to include painted
knob, if desired. Shown here is the product
that was used in this project (from Hobby Lobby).
35. Position center nova and doily shapes
over platform, align circle openings, and
attach in place. (NOTE that nova shape
tall points are aligned between blossoms.)
36. Position and attach painted knob at
center circle hole.
(NOTE use alternate center shapes if not
including the painted knob; use decorative
brad in place of knob.)
37. Complete the decorated lid by positioning
and attaching the large circles and smaller
single or trio circles in positions on the accent base
as shown. As alternative, similar-sized studs or
circle decorations can be substituted. Or . . .
. . . give the card stock circles the look of
shiny raised studs by applying
3D Crystal Laquer to circle surfaces
and allow to dry.
Here is the completed Bride's Box with Tulips project.
