Egg 3D Hallow Dangler Ornament

Eight wedges each for top and bottom “half domes”
are assembled, then fit snugly together to form
a replica dimensional egg for hanging
(bottom end is rounded which prohibits it from sitting upright).
Assembly creates a tiny hole through which twine can be
threaded with long needle, with “stop” bead or tassel
at bottom, loop fashioned at top.
(Wedge slice alternatives include provision for larger end holes.)
Hang from pegs, as part of decorative swag, egg tree,
under basket handle, on decorated seasonal wreath.
Sized to fit inside the “Lantern Ornate 3D Floral Decor”
separate design to add extra magic to that decoration.
Assembled egg measures approx.
2.5” horizontal diam. x 3.5” tall.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A upper dome wedge shapes (8)
B lower dome wedge shapes (8)
C interior reinforcement collar
2. Prepare each wedge shape for upper and lower
domes by bending back on each perforation line
for segments and side tabs.
3. Place the first two wedges side by side with
the strata of segments aligned, then overlap the straight side
edge of the widest segment to align at tab perforation line
and glue together. Move upward, down, to bend adjacent
edges inward to adjust alignment, then glue each in
the seam length.
4. Continue to follow the same alignment sequence
for two more segments. Then repeat the process
to join the remaining wedges to prepare TWO
dome halves.
5. Prepare to join the dome halves by arranging
the seam edges so that wedge seams can be
joined as has been done in previous assembly.
Position and join the two or three segment edges
nearest the dome opening, first on one side seam,
and then on the other. When these are secure . . .
. . . work along the top of dome, compressing the height
downward slightly to help straight edges align
with perforation lines, then join each of remaining
segments to complete the dome seam.
6. Complete the bottom dome in similar manner by
following steps 3-6 above.
7. Prepare the reinforcement collar by bending each
of the edge tabs forward. Position the collar at then
inside the opening of the lower half dome . . .
. . . centering one tab/perforation line at one facet edge
of half dome, with perforation line of collar aligned
over the perf line of dome edge segment,
and glue in place.
8. Apply glue to the remaining tabs backsides, then . . .
. . . carefully ease them inside the rim.
If the collar slips too far down, use the punch holes
in the side tabs and a hook tool to help gentle ease
the collar up into correct position.
Apply pressure to attach each tab in place.
Allow to dry securely.
9. Apply glue to face surface of lower half dome
rim segments all around. Then . . .
. . . fit the upper dome edge over lower dome edge
and push together.
Continue to ease and work the upper dome rim
edges downward to align as closely as possible
along the first perforation lines of lower dome.
Hold in place until secure.
10. Depending on the intended final use of the ornament,
decide how to add hanging loop with or without beads.
For the sample project, a small bead is threaded onto
a length of soft twine and centered. Then both ends
are threaded through a biscuit bead.
Twine ends are threaded onto a large eye darning or
upholstery needle. Needle is inserted through center
bottom opening, through collar center opening cut out,
and out through the top end . . .
. . . where a bead is threaded onto twine and moved
down to touch ornament top.
Finally, silky ribbon bow is knotted and tied
near top of ornament.

Here is the completed ornament.

  1. Hi Jodi, where is the "Lantern Ornate 3D Floral Decor"? I have been unable to find it. Or is it something you are still in the process of creating. Thank you.....
