Star with Pinwheel Center Pop Out

A nova-style four point “star” with layered variable star
includes pinwheel center shape that “pops” out
to reveal hidden God bless America “print & cut message”.
(Alternative “Joy to the World” print & cut panel
also included.)
As alternative, use your own stamps or
fussy-cut paper print elements.
Card measures approx. 5.875” side x 5.875” tall
when top folded.

ASSEMBLY:  1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A top-fold card base (can be side fold if preferred)
 B accent front panel
C pinwheel folded corners pop-open panel
D optional accent corner overlays
E nova star accent shape
F evening star accent shape (stripes option shown)
G print & cut "God bless America" hidden panel
H optional "Joy to the World" panel for Christmas version
I optional interior sentiment panel
2. Position the nova shape overlay, centered,
on the accent front panel, and attach in place.
3. If using the stripe variation, position and cello tape
the four sections together as shown. NOTE that
the center portion will be covered with the pinwheel
unit is attached in place.
4. Position the evening star shape, centered, over
the nova/front panel shape, and attach in place.
5. Position and attach the front panel onto the folded
card base, with narrow offset margin all around.
6. Prepare the pinwheel pop out shape by bending back
on the 4 "square" perforation lines, and forward
on the diagonal "corner" perforation lines.
7. If you are NOT using two-sided paper that has
desired contrast, position and attach a contrast
triangle overlay on the underside of pinwheel shape . . .
. . . taking care to make sure that the diagonal edge
of triangle and diagonal perforation line precisely.
8. On underside of pop up panel, position and
attach either print & cut center or plain decorated
hidden panel in the center, evenly spaced within
the perforation lines.
9. To close the hidden panel, fold each side inward
in order so that the unfolde. . .d corner is overlapped
by the adjacent fold-in side, until . . .
. . . the final side, which is flexed slightly so that
the final unfolded corner can slide under the first
folded-back corner.
Here is how the completed, closed panel should appear.
10. Position the closed pinwheel assembly onto
the front of the evening star, with the corners . . .
. . . lined up exactly at the corner angles of star,
and attach in place securely. NOTE: at this point,
the pop up panel inside the pinwheel panel
will have a definite north/south direction, so
it is important to make sure this is positioned
correctly.
11. If desired, open the card and attach the interior
sentiment panel in the center of the "back" panel.
The card is now complete.
(Consider including a sentence of instructions on
separate strip about how to open and close
the pop out panel.)
