Six-sided shaped card (top fold) with offset
scalloped edge
and plain edge mats are topped by seven flowers
with double
circle centers.
Tiny stitching holes in flowers and mats allow for
lacing
stitches to attach in place.
Hexagon card measures
approx. 6” wide x 5.27” wide
when closed.
with ample room to enclose dimensional flowers
has two top flaps with punch holes
for ribbon closure. Envelope measures
5.8” wide x 6.6” tall when closed.
ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A hexagon card base with top-fold perforation
B scalloped accent base & C front accent, both
of which include stitching punch holes
D 7 sets of flowers: petals base, large circle, small circle
2. Identify the 'T' symbol cut into the front accent shape
near the top left-most set of stitching holes.
3. Position and attach the accent front to accent base shapestaking care to line up stitching holes as precisely as
possible. This may be assisted by poking
a needle or end of an unbent paper clip into the holes
as they are being layered.
4. Prepare the flowers and centers by bending slightly along vertical center perforation as "valley" fold.
If using varied paper prints and colors, select the centers and
flowers that you want to go together,
then arrange the 7 flowers in the order that looks best,
watching for balance in the variety, reducing repeated colors
or paper prints too close to each other, etc.
5. Glue together the 2 centers onto the base for ALL flower sets,
taking care that center perforations and punch holes align
as precisely as possible. This may be assisted by poking
a needle or end of an unbent paper clip into the holes
as they are being layered.
6. Stitching will be completed with a 24-30 inch
lengths of contrast No. 5 perle cotton "twine" or thread,
or equivalent, and a blunt point tapestry needle with
eye large enough to accept the perle cotton.
Size 24 tapestry needles are used for this tutorial.
7. Cut a length of perle cotton or twine, thread needle
7. Cut a length of perle cotton or twine, thread needle
and leave "tail" pulled a few inches through needle eye.
Turn the front panel face side down and use a small piece
of cello tape to secure the single ply end near the top left
pairs of holes.
the TOP hole . . .10. Position the second flower, and repeat the stitching process
. . . bring to front and . . .
. . . thread through the top hole of
the first flower set. (NOTE: the TOP of the flower
has a single vertical petal that has perforation line up center.)
Pull thread completely through leaving "taut" on backside.
9. Insert the needle and thread downward throughthe second from top hole, through ALL layers,
and pull thread through completely to hold flower
in position.
Repeat the up and down bottom stitch for flower,
and pull thread completely through at each pass.
for both steps 8 & 9 so that stitches are . . .
. . . smooth and "taut". Continue to position and stitch into
place each of the remaining flowers, endeavoring to
be efficient in "bridging" between stitching hole positions . . .
. . . as can be seen on the backside here, withhave been carried to backside.12. Trim excess thread, leaving approx. 3/4" tail.Use a small piece of cello tape to anchor the tail.
13. Position and attach the completed front panel
onto the front of the folded card base.
Here is the completed card.
A custom-sized envelope design is available
to enclose the Flowers Hexagon Card.
Brief instructions for envelope assembly:
1) Fold top flaps down along angled perforation lines.
2) Position and attach accent panels to flaps;
position and attach reinforcement accent rings over holes.
3) Fold side panels inward to overlap; glue in place
along center seam where they overlap.
4) Fold bottom flange up and glue in place.
5) Thread 16-18" length of narrow ribbon or twine up
through envelope body punch holes, and center length.
6) Insert card into envelope; fold flaps down into position to close.
7) Thread ribbon holes up through flap punch holes;
thread heart charm onto ribbon; tie ribbon in knot and bow.
