upper (main silhouette base), vamp, heel,
lacing band and
loopy lacing extension, diminutive lace edge at top opening.
Lacing holes (.2” diam.) open through to boxing for
realistic appearance
(thread a 48” length between
and across front boxing span).
Fill with holiday
floral picks or treats for gifting or display.
Measures approx. 7.48” tall x
6.45 wide x 1.5” deep.
Embellish with Tag Midnight Flyin’ or
Spellbound Word
Embellishment separate designs.
NOTE: the "midnight flynin'" tag design assembly
is shown beginning in Step 24.
ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A front boot panel (2-3 for thickness build up)
B 'reversed' boot front interior layer with guide marks
C back boot panel (2-3 for thickness build up)
D 'reversed' boot back interior layer with guide marks
(following E-L front panel shapes have reversed
counterparts for back panel decoration shapes)
E boot front accent silhouette
F boot 'upper' G loopy trim/lacing holes underlay)
H lacing holes panel I ankle lace strip
J heel I heel sole trim L mid-sole trim
Boxing shapes:
M front boxing shaper panel
N back boxing shaper panel
O tongue boxing strip (upper front)
P bottom/toe boxing strip
Q heel/back boxing strip
2. Stack and attach the front main panels for thickness
build up, taking care to align ALL cut edges and lacing holes
as precisely as possible, so it appears as a single shape.
3. Identify the front reversed panel with boxing shaper
guidemark cuts . . .
. . . which is layered behind the front stack . . .
. . . aligned and glued in place.
IMMEDIATELY press the glued-up stack under a flat,
heavy object such as a wood plank or heavy book,
until the glue is completely dry, and the shapes
are no longer cool to the touch, to prevent curling
or warping of the liquid adhesive.
4. Repeat Steps 2-3 for the BACK boot build up panels.
5. Begin the assembly of front (and back) decoration panels.
Here are the FRONT shapes, which are . . .
. . . prepared: lacing panel glued on top of loopy
accent shape; heel sole trim attached to bottom of heel;
mid sole trim attached to bottom of 'upper' shape.
6. Continue the assembly of the boot by positioning
the 'upper' assembly onto the main boot silhouette
(shows-thru as the boot ankle/calf sides) . . .
. . . then position the heel assembly and lacing panels on,
and finally the ankle edge lacy panel which tucks under
the top main silhouette edge to allow just the scallops to show.
7. Position the assembled boot accent unit onto the front
of the built-up stack, with narrow offset margin all around,
with bottom heel and mid straight edges aligned even,
and lacing holes lined up as precisely as possible.
8. Repeat Step 7 for the back panel.
9. Prepare the boxing strips by bending back edge flanges
and also along cross-perforations that separate segments
and end tabs.
10. It may be helpful to arrange the strips around one of
the boxing shaper panels (FRONT shown here) so that
segments can be re-bent to follow the outline of the compartment.
Identify the cut-in symbols that will show how strips
are joined as assembly progresses.
Shown below is the triangle symbol cut into
the side tabs at the lower front strip's top end (left)
and tongue strip's bottom end (right).
At the sequential time in the assembly, these two
will be joined (see Step 19), with the circle symbol
end edges similarly attached to each other in Step 15.
Here is a diagram showing where the symbols fall
at the angles of the FRONT boxing shaper panel.
(reverse for the BACK panel).
the three tab flanges along the lacing/opening edge.
12. Position the triangle symbols end of the toe/front
strip at the toe area of the back shaper piece, with
the triangles end at the first edge segment beyond
the lowest lacing edge tab as shown.
Wrap the first tab around the shaper edge
(the boxing tabs will be on the outside and the shaper
will be effectively between the two side edge boxing tabs
when the container is completed).
Check that the boxing segment is snug against the edge,
then glue in place. NOTE: it may be helpful to position,
bend and form, then attach the first 2-3 segments in one
action, to help them seat more evenly and completely
against the edge.
13. Continue to fitting, wrapping of tabs about shaper,
and attaching along the toe tip segment, and
along the bottom of the sole edge in the same manner
and . . .
. . . along the bottom of the shaper for the final
segments of the first boxing strip.
15. Position the circle end of the second (heel/back
boxing strip at the end of the previously attached strip
to join the end straight edge -- overlapped to
the tab's perforation line and centered, then attach.
16. Continue to wrap, position and attach the segment tabs
of this strip around the heel, and finally . . .
. . . up the backside of the shaper, taking care at
the end that the top end edge is pretty much even
with the top of the shaper.
17. Prepare the attach the right/front shaper to
the previous assembly by positioning it to wrap
the top three tabs of the toe strip first, because
the enclosed nature of this portion of the assembly
will make it somewhat difficult to reach to align and
apply pressure to. Position and join the first three, then . . .
. . . flex the shaper and strip apart slightly to reach
fingertip in to attach toe tip.
18. Position and attach next few tabs in whatever
manner enables fingertip reach, and continue the assembly
in the same manner as for the first shaper attachment.
When the toe/bottom strip is in place, continue along
the remaining length to attach the heel and back areas.
19. Position the tongue bottom flange under the top end
of the toe strip which is already attached to shapers,
center side to side, and attach in place.
20. Bend the tongue strip forward and out of the way
then bend the lacing edge flanges inward for BOTH
shapers. (NOTE: the tongue strip is placed on top
of these flanges -- different from previous strip flanges
which were wrapped around the shapers.)
Position and attach each of the three lacing edge flanges
to the underside of the tongue strip.
At the top, the rounded portion of the tongue
will extend slightly above ankle edge of shapers.
21. Position the first front panel assembly over the top
of the corresponding shaper/container . . .
1) bottom straight edges of panel and container are even;
2) the lacing holes of all layers are aligned; and
3) the boxing edges are lined up at guidemarks
along back underside of built-up panel layers.
. . . applying finger/hand pressure into the interioras far as can be reached.
(Consider placing a moderately heavy flat book
onto the assembly to apply pressure until glue dries.)
22. Position and attach the second built-up assembly
to the final face of the container, following the same
alignment criteria.
23. To complete the lacing of the model project,
a length (48") was threaded onto a long "doll" needle
then threaded through the bottom pairs of holes
and centered. Lacing was completed in a series
of three crossing "X" stitches, with the ribbon exiting
out of the top holes to be knotted and tied.
(The image shown here does not represent
the finished project's lacing configuration.)
Here the lacing layout can be seen, with wooden
beads attached at tails, knotted ends and glued in place.
As embellishment, two coordinated designs can be
cut, assembled and attached (tied on) as shown here.
24. To assembly the "midnight flyin'" tag, first
identify and cut the shapes. NOTE that the underlays
for the center panel are differently colored to add
desired contrast to the stencil-style letters and cut outs.
25. Flip the show-through panels face down
and pre-assemble by sliding edges together and
securing with a small cello tape strip.
26. Position and attach on the underside of the front panel,
with a tiny offset-inward margin. Align the hang hole exactly.
27. Position the front/contrast underlay assembly on top
of the back base panel, centering and aligning punch holes.
28. Finally, position the moon into the large circle cutout,
with the companion star over the circle punch,
the bottom star into its window. Position and attach
the 'midnight' word cut out -- then position and attach
the 'i' jots in appropriate positions above the 'i's.
29. Add looped-through twine to the tag, then
decide where to attach to the boot near rim,
pierce a hole to pass one end of twine through,
then tie with knot and bow.
Im super interested in purchasing this, as soon as the instructions are completed ! Cute !
