Sunflower Patchwork 6x6 Card

To create this perky four-block quilt card,
front panel is layered, then mounted onto slightly offset base.
Components include front panel with cutout polygon windows,
contrast under-lays and overlays.
Each block has separate petals and combined
petals “ring” base, polygon narrow frame and
center checker square.
Set up as “top fold” card but works as side fold also.
Attach card back panel to back of front panel
with perforated flange.
Card measures approx. 6” x 6” when completed.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
(upper l to r clockwise)
checker show-thru underlay
front panel overlay
4 sets of flower units, including top to bottom:
center checker square
checker rim ring
outer checker units overlay
4 middle petals
petals ring overlay
card base back with flange, card front base

2. Complete Steps 2-4 for each of 4 blossom units:
Position rim ring on top of outer checker units overlay
with outer edges and intermittent inward edges aligned
and glue in place. Finished unit shown on right.

3. Position each of the assembled units from Step 2
onto front of the front panel, with checker inward edges
centered/aligned around the + cutout, and glue in place.

Here is the completed center panel to this stage.
4. Position 4 varied middle petal shapes around ring with
corresponding edges aligned, and glue in place. Petals
assembly unit is shown completed at right, below.

5. Position each petals unit on front panel assembly,
slipping the center opening over checker assembly
ring (a snug and precise fit) and attach in place.

Here is the completed assembly to this stage.
6. Position the assembled front panel on top of
the checker contrast underlay panel, so that it
shows thru the + openings and creates the dark cross
in the center of each blossom unit; glue in place.

7. Position one of the individual center "checker" squares
in the middle of the blossom unit, point to point with
the cutout + edges, and attach to the contrast panel.

This shows the completed center panel unit
with the individual center squares in place.

8. Complete the card by assembling the card base,
bending the BACK panel's top flange back, then positioning and
attaching top edge of FRONT (backside) to flange.
Position and attach the card front assembly onto the card
base front. Here is the completed card.

Dresden Quilt Sunflower Card

Square top-fold card features traditional
Dresden Plate quilting design.
Mix and match 12 print petals with layered center blossom,
arranged on a silhouette shape that matches
front accent panel. Match center punch holes
for slightly off-center alignment on card front.
“Sunflower” word cut is centered and tucked BEHIND
the center-only-attached flower.
(An alternative word cut “Hello Sunshine” is available
as separate design download.)
Card measures approx. 5.5” x 5.5” when closed.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A card base (top fold center crease)
B front accent panel
C flower base silhouette
D "dark" contrast center circle
E sunflower Dresden petals (12)
F flower center
G word cut out   H accent circles (10)
2. Begin flower assembly by positioning dark (large) circle
onto base silhouette by matching the center alignment
circles, and glue in place.
3. Arrange the flower petals in the order desired,
then position and attach to the silhouette base,
using scallop outer edge as alignment guide, while
also nudging lower curved edge in next to circle edge.

NOTE: the sample card uses one MAIN yellow print (6)
with three other secondary yellow/gold prints (2 each).
Many combinations are possible, including 12 different
coordinated prints, 3 each of 4 prints, six each of 2 prints. etc.

4. Fold the card base in half, then unfold.
5. Position and attach the accent front panel
onto the punched front panel of card base,
aligning circles, square up edges, then glue in place.
6. Position the word cut at top of front panel
(letters overlap accent panel edge slightly)
so that it is balanced and centered, then attach.
7. Position and attach the accent circle punches
into the circle cut outs.
8. Position the flower assembly over the card front,
using the center punched holes of all layers
to align the flower in the appropriate location.
NOTE that the flower assembly will need to be
rotated to make sure that one of the petals - plus
the one directly across front it - are in the "north/south"
position. Attach the center of the flower assembly ONLY
to the card front, leaving the edges free to overlap
the word cut.
9. Position flower center shape centered over
the larger flower assembly and attach in place.
Here is the completed card.

Sunflower Hidden Gift Card Holder

Bracket-shaped petals in two sizes,
with rim and echo accent shapes, add-on leaf,
two-layer center circle, "hello sunshine" tie-on tag.
Slide the top two large petals upward to reveal
the hidden compartment for standard gift card.
Main flower shape and "slider" have multiple layers for strength.
Measures approx. 6.5" wide x 6" tall when closed.

(Tag assembly follows the card assembly
at Step 17.)
ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
CARD
A main (large petals, lower) card front base
B main compartment build up shapes (5)
C main card back base
D slider build up (3)
E slider back layer      F slider upper back
G slider upper front accent
H main front with accents
I small petals front accent & rim accent
J slider accents   K flower middle circles (2 sizes)
L leaf main, build up for strength, accent half
NOT SHOWN: build up circles for smaller petal
shape (see step 10).
TAG
M tag base
N positioning guide (cut to match tag)
O individual "sunshine" letters
P "hello" welded word cut
2. Prepare the main (lower) build up by layering
and attaching, one by one, the build up shapes,
taking care that all cut edges line up as
precisely as possible, taking special care
that the 'U' shaped interior edges match exactly.
NOTE:
It will be helpful to press the build up assembly
-- here and throughout the process --
under something heavy and flat while the glue
is drying, such as a wooden box, fabric-covered
cast-off free weight bars, cast-off re-purposed iron, etc.
This will keep all glued-up shapes flat and prevent
undesirable curling or warping.
3. Position and attach the interior build up stack
onto the backside of the main back panel,
matching outer cut edges precisely.
4. Position the main front panel over the
build-up/back assembly, match edges, and
attach in place.
5. Prepare the slider by layering, one by one,
the slider compartment shapes, aligning
edges precisely, particularly the interior edges,
and glue in place.
6. Position and attach the slider interior shape
build up stack over the slider back layer.
7. Position and attach the upper front
"petals" portion shape over the front of slider . . .
. . . then turn the assembly over and attach
the back upper petals shape at the top.
8. Prepare the large petals shape,
slider upper shape, and smaller petals shape
by positioning and attaching the accent trims.
9. Position and attach the main large front accent
assembly over the main base (compartment)
assembly, matching edges that should align.
10. Layer and attach the 3 to 4 build up circles.
11. Position the build up circle assembly
behind the smaller petal assembly,
centering by matching up the hole punches.
(This build up will provide some space to make
inserting the slider into
the base's compartment easier.)
12. Apply adhesive to the circle build up
exposed surface ONLY, then . . .
. . . position over the base assembly, matching
center holes, and apply pressure to the circle stack
area to attach. Then . . .
. . . layer and attach the inner and outer
circle centers, and position & attach
over the small petals assembly.
13. Position and attach the accent assembly
to the upper petal portion of the slider.
14. Test the function and fit of the slider
by inserting it behind the smaller petal layers
and into the channel between front and back
of the main large petals assembly . . .
. . . and push it fully in.
14. Layer and attach the 2 main leaf shapes,
then position and attach the half accent shape,
matching the side edges that should align.
15. Position and attach the leaf to the side
as desired. (This image shows one mid-side
position; the final project has the leaf
nearer the side bottom.)
16. To "fill" the sunflower, pull the slider out
to insert gift card into the recess, then . . .
. . . push the slider in again to hide the card.
TAG ASSEMBLY
17. Position the letters positioning guide
on the front of the tag.
NOTE: if the guide shape is cut from card stock
that matches the tag, it will become invisible.
18. Position and attach the individual letters
for 'sunshine' word exactly over the guide letters.
19. Finish the tag by positioning and attaching
the 'hello' welded word cut, adding twine, etc.
Position and tie the tag through the punch hole
on the hidden gift card slider petal.
