Snowflake 3D Rosette Pennant

Dimensional rolled petals are assembled around 

a center stub “post” onto which 

the built-up layers button can be attached. 

Flat petals base includes faux stitching detail, 

with optional mini snowflakes for additional decoration. 

Printed paper weight is a good choice for the eight rolled 

petals, with optional stencil overlay to add striping 

to plain backsides if desired. 

Saw tooth accent overlay pennant aligns at top edge. 

Fold-over top bracket band has four holes to thread 

hanging ribbon. Add ribbon and other findings 

for festive decor as a single, or a banner swag. 

Rosette measures approx. 6.375” in diameter. 

Pennant measures approx. 7.75” wide at top x 10.5” long.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A pennant base   B saw tooth pennant overlay
C top band

E contrast 'liner' for flat petals overlay
F petal shapes (8)   G optional stripes stencil
H button base circle (4-5)   I button ring (4-5)
J tiny snowflake add on decor (3 of each)

2. Prepare the built-up layers button first, to allow

time for it to dry. Layer the circle bases, one at a time,

and attach, taking care to align edges and punch holes

carefully. Repeat the layering and glue-up of the ring 

shapes. Place each stack under a flat weight during

the drying process, to assist these to stay very flat

and to avoid curling or warping.

3. Position and attach the ring stack on top of the circle
stack. Use flat weight again during drying.

4. Position and attach the flat petal overlay on top

of the contrast base, taking care . . .

. . . to especially line up the four slots at the center
so that the stub platform tabs will fit easily as required.

5. Prepare the platform shape by bending back on
all the perforations.

6. Form the platform sides into a ring to overlap
the straight side edge over the opposite tab to
perf line, and glue seam.

7. Bend the upper tabs inward, then . . .

. . . bend the octagon 'lid' into position, adjust
segment edges and lid edges, then glue in place.
NOTE it will be helpful to turn the form top-down on
flat work surface and apply fingertip pressure from
the backside.

8. Insert the bottom tabs into the four slots on

the flat petal assembly and push in until flush

against the front. On the backside . . .

. . . bend the tabs outward and glue in place.

9. If desired, prepare the printed paper weight petal

cutouts by adding pattern to the plain backsides

using the optional stripes stencil.

A) On protected surface or waste paper, position
the petal shape face side down then position the stencil,
centered, over the shape. NOTE that the window
is large enough to be able to view the petal edges
at top and bottom to assist in viewing how the center
strip aligns with the tip point, how the margins
are even around top and bottom edges, to assist
with positioning. 
If desired, secure in place with strips of masking tape,
to keep the stencil from shifting during painting.

B) Use a dauber and distressing ink or paint,
as single color or a blend, to fill in spaces of stencil
with light or heavy ink to add the stripes.
Fill from tip to base.

C) Remove the stencil to view the completed petal.
Allow to dry.

10. Further prepare the petals by adding curl to each

using a rod tool such as this section of .375 dowel,

rolling across the full width of the petal, applying

pressure to paper shape against rod, to add a moderately

high degree of curl, particularly to tip and middle.

11. Bend the bottom edge at the tiny perf cuts,
one side then the other, matching straight edges
of sides along center straight edge as each
is folded and glued.

Here are the completed eight petals.
NOTE that the model project is created with four
petals that have the original print face up (to show
as the inside of the petal), and the other four
with the stripes face up, to add variety.

12. Position the first petal of one set over the flat petals

with straight bottom edge butted up to platform,

petal tube centered between flat petals. Glue in place.

Repeat for the remaining three petals of first set

in the 'south', 'east', and 'west' positions.

13. Overlap and position the second set petals
between the first in the same manner, and glue in place.

14. Prepare the button accent by adding twine tie

and bow. 

15. Position over the platform, center, and attach.

16. To add more dimension between the rosette
and the pennant, attach a series of foam squares
to the backside of the rosette assembly.

17. Assemble the pennant by positioning and attaching

the saw tooth overlap on front of base, aligning

top straight edges, and matching circle cut outs.

18. Prepare the top band by bending along
the perforation line.

19. Position over the pennant top edge, enclosing
pennant top edges, centering it, and making sure . . .

. . .that the smaller band holes
are centered over the pennant hole openings,
with end edges evened. Glue in place.
(NOTE: if using liquid adhesive, place under
a large flat weight and allow it to remain until glue
is completely dry, to avoid curling and warping.)

20. Position and attach the rosette to front of

the pennant, with center petal tip approx. 3/4"

below band edge, or as desired.

21. Position and attach tiny snowflake cutouts

as desired to exposed portions of flat petals,

and button, as desired.

22. Thread ribbon through top holes,

add jewels, faux foliage, bows, etc.
