season.
Cut featured design from vinyl and apply to
built-up center panel, or
cut from paper and mount
using adhesive.
Optional
outer walls and rim overlays such as the corrugated
kraft paper used for the sample projects can stylize
or dress frame up.
Project measures approx. 6” long x 6" tall x 1.5” deep
when completely built.
ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes
(the Acorn design will be featured in
this tutorial):
A top and bottom wrap-around frame wall panels (2)
B side wrap-around frame wall panels (2)
C front panel to hold flourish design
D flourish design (shown here as cut vinyl)
E interior wall layers to strengthen (3-4)
F opt. exterior wall overlays (4)
G opt. rim overlays (4)
NOTE if cutting from cardstock, consider any of
the following steps and techniques that may assist
positioning of the paper design and frame.
2. Prepare the center panel to hold the flourish design
by measuring and marking lightly and near the cut edge
at the center of each edge.
3. Position the front panel exactly on top of the first
interior panel layer, adjust so that all cut edges align
as precisely as possible. Continue this step until
all interior layers are joined behind the front panel
in a stack.
4. Working quickly and In a similar manner to step 2,
measure and mark the center near the edge of the cut vinyl.
Here, small pieces of paper masking tape were
temporarily placed over the clear transfer adhesive sheet
and the center marks added to these.
5. Position the vinyl design with carrier over
the center panel, hovering until final position is
achieves, and visually line up the center tick marks
of each layer. When satisfied with positioning that
is as perfect as possible, lower into place and
adhere to panel. Use conventional vinyl techniques
to apply smoothly to the paper panel.
6. Carefully remove the transfer sheet, and burnish
the vinyl in place to paper.
7. Immediately press the front panel assembly
under a heavy flat object such as this thick book
volume, possibly with something heavy on top as well,
and leave in place until completely dry.
This may require several hours or overnight,
helping to minimize curling or warping of the glued-up
stack when liquid adhesive is used.
8. Proceed to prepare the top, frame bottom and side
walls, assemble the wall sections into frame,
position and attach the front panel with decorative
flourish design in place, and attach overlays,
if desired, etc. following Steps 5-15, 18 & 19 for
the very similar Frame Phrase projects,
Here are the 5 flourish designs in frames:
