Hanukkah Dreidel Patchwork with Button Tag Card

Fun and festive patchwork tag-style
standing card presents ten “scrap” shapes
(varied paper patterns), “pieced” together on base
that can show thru as one of the center patches,
then overlaid with the classic Dreidel outline shape.
The assembly is centered onto the tag front,
then onto the tag front. Back tag base has
swing-away cross-perforation line to allow it to attach
at top “hinge” panel to backside of tag front.
Add the layered four-hole button and a ribbon bow
as final decorative accents.
Tag measures approx. 4.6” wide x 7.5” tall.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A tag front base
B tag back base with cross perforation
C tag front panel
D dreidel outline shape (2 for strength)
E paper button base circle (4) and rim (3)
to layer for thickness
F patchwork build-upon base that also shows
through in sample as patch #8
G patchwork shapes 1-7, 9
2. Prepare the layered dreidel outline assembly
by stacking and gluing together the two cut shapes,
taking care that all edges align as accurately
as possible.
Press the layered assembly beneath a flat
heavy object such as this thick book, possibly
with something else heavy on top of it,
until the shape is thoroughly dry and stiff.
3. Prepare the paper button by layering and gluing
together the four circle base shapes carefully with
holes & outer edges aligned as accurately as possible.
Also layer and attach the ring shapes together,
then position and attach ring over circles base.
Press this assembly under heavy flat object as
described for the dreidel outline shapes, above.
4. Prepare the tag base back panel by bending
the upper portion forward as "valley" fold. Then . . .
. . . position the upper portion behind the front
panel, with edges aligned, and glue together
to create a hinged assembly. Press until dried.
5. Refer to the numerical and order designation
chart here for the 10 "patch" shapes that
will assemble onto the base. NOTE that for
this sample project, patch #8 coloration will
"show thru" from the assemble base shape,
so #8 does NOT need to be cut as
a separate shape. Choose any position you wish
to "show thru" and NOT be cut separately, or
cut ALL patches and assemble on a "blank" base.

6. Begin with shape #1 to position and attach
where dashed guide marks indicate,
Next, position and attach 2-4 in sequence
above #1 . . .
. . . then do the same thing with the remainder.
Press flat under weight if using liquid glue.
Repeating: #8 patch for the sample is
showing thru from the base silhouette paper.
7. Locate the guide marks for upper corners
and bottom point on the tag front panel
(not base),  then position and attach.
8. Position and attach the dreidel outline assembly
so that it is "centered" over the patchwork
shape edge.
9. Position and attach the front panel assembly
onto the front of the tag base, with offset
narrow margin on sides and bottom.
Here is the completed tag, with ribbon bow,
button attached at neck of dreidel stem,
and ribbon tied through hang hole.

Star of David Gate Medallion 5x7 Card

Create an elegant card with a combination of
coordinated solids and prints that is a great card choice
for Hanukkah, birthday, “you’re a star” and
many other occasions.
Two folds of the card base provide the foundation
for the Z-easel effect to stage a center medallion
which “pops” out to hold the offset disc
in the upper portion of card,
allowing space for a front sentiment plaque or greeting.
Interlocked “triangles” with rounded extensions
form the six point star shape, with
decorative circles and layered stars on front.
Contrast accent panels add final level
of fun and flash.
Card measures 5x7 when fully assembled & folded.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A 'Z'-fold card base (cut from solid core card stock
which has the same appearance on front & back)
B narrow left edge accent strip
C wider left edge accent strip
D right edge accent strip
E interior partial circle sentiment panel
(hidden in the thumbnails)
F front circle overlay
G front optional show-thru disc
H front circle offset accent overlay
I Star of David interlocking shapes (3)
J medallion center disc with two star overlays
K positioning guide for 'I' shapes to create
the interlocking Star of David design
2. Prepare the card base by allowing the curved cut to
"pop out" as the left perforation segments are bent
back in "mountain" fold above . . .
. . . through circle and below
3. Position and attach right accent panel onto
the front largest section of card base, with offset
narrow margin on right edge, top and bottom,
and with left edge tucked into the crease as far as
it can be without interfering with folding the card.
4. Prepare the sentiment modified circle shape by
bending back on vertical perforation line, then
positioning behind the circle panel, with narrow
offset margin along curved edges, perforation lines
aligned and tucked together, and right straight edge
abutting fairly closely to panel edge.
5. Align the left, top & bottom of the narrow
and wider left accents  . . .
. . . and corresponding curve edges and
attach together, then . . .
. . . position onto the front panel of card base with
narrow offset margin at left, top and bottom edges . . .
. . .with curve cut edge aligned, and attach in place.
6. Prepare medallion with Star of David interlocking shapes
by first overlaying and positioning the guide with
medallion front disc with punch dot accent holes aligned.
Position and temp-tape these two shapes onto work surface
to prevent misalignment until interlocking shapes are attached.
7. NOTE that the interlocking shapes can be simply
overlaid or they can actually be "woven". For the latter
option, each contains a partial cut through one of
the triangle edges, which can be snapped to separate.
Position the first shape over the medallion so that
the points and curves outer edges fit into the guide's
window, and glue in place. (If interlocking, glue only
the tips and curve apexes in place to allow the shape
"arms" to be inter-woven.)
8. Continue the arrangement by positioning (and
interweaving, if desired) the second and third shapes,
similarly fitting the points and curve apexes into
the guide's windows, and attach in place.
As noted, the arms of these shapes may be lifted
with a tool and gently passed under and over
adjacent arms to create the interweave, if desired.
Carefully remove the guide without disturbing shapes.
9. Position the contrast underlay behind medallion
(this image shows guide still in place) . . .
. . . with narrow offset at outer edge (this image shows
the disc assembly from back side).
10. Assemble the small circle and star medallion by
layering inner star over outer star, and centering
them in smaller circle, and attaching all in place.
11. Position and attach the small medallion into
the center of the Star of David medallion.
12. Complete final assembly by positioning the "duplicate"
medallion base circle over the card base so that
center punch circles align, and left curved edges match,
and attach in place.
13. Position and attach the decorative medallion assembly
over the front of the duplicate circle.
14. The card assembly is now complete.
When the card is flexed, the medallion will "rotate"
slightly within its "window".
Write or stamp the desired sentiment on the partial
circle panel in the "inside" of the bi-folds.

Snowflake Tipped Cinch Box with Oval Window

Gift box with snowflake elegance features
six petal-shaped extensions at upper opening end and
narrow neck sections that cinch in for a ribbon- or
cord-tied closure. Bottom has latch-style panels
which overlap to form slot for final tab insertion.
Add slightly off-set accent panels to side walls and
interior bottom hexagon panel to stabilize box.
Delicate snowflake petal overlays provide
accent at tips, and oval window opening with
clear liner panel entices by offering a view of gift contents.
Box measures approx. 6.875” tall x 2.125” wide x
2.5” deep when fully assembled and closed.
Box capacity is approx. 1 cup loose contents.
Use the coordinated "Snowflake Dangle Tag"
(separate design) as embellishment, if desired.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A main box hull
B side wall offset accent overlays
C window underlay
D interior "floor" reinforcement hexagon
E tip snowflake overlays (6)
2. Prepare the hull shape by folding on perforation lines
as valley or mountain folds, following this diagram
from a similar box project:
And here is the hull panel with snowflake tips.
A) fold vertical perforation line back as "mountain" folds . . .
. . . taking particular care to fold the perforation lines
that converge with the oval window opening.
Also fold the upper shorter segment in the same direction.
B) fold the "narrow neck" perf line pairs forward
as "valley" folds;
C) fold the "narrow neck" perf line pairs forward
as "valley" folds;
D) add slight forward or "valley" bend to the opposing
very short angled lines that are just above the narrow
neck perf lines. These lines work together with
the valley folds in Step B above to allow petal shapes
to contour appropriately.
E) fold the short lines at the top of the side walls
as "mountain" folds;
F) fold the short lines at the bottom of the side walls
as "mountain" folds;
3. Fold back the side flange tabs on main and upper
side edges, then unfold.
4. Position and attach all of the accent wall panels,
including those modified for wall segments surrounding
the oval window. NOTE that the accent shapes curved edges
should match the curve of window opening.
All square edges are offset with narrow and equal
margin between cut edge and perforated panel lines.
If using liquid adhesive, press the panels area under
a flat heavy weight until completely dry.
5. Bend the tip accent overlays back at center
perforation line or dashes between the design cutouts.
6. Form the hull into a tube to bring the plain side edge
around into position to overlap the opposite
long flange tab to perforation fold line opposite.
NOTE that the symmetry of the shape will allow it
to be flattened so that fingertip pressure can be applied
along the entire length of the seam. Allow to dry
thoroughly, and make sure the upper, shorter seam
is totally secure before proceeding.
7. Repeat the seaming process for the upper portion
of the seam, taking care to align the cut outs exactly.
8. Prepare the window opening clear panel by
bending back at approx. 60 degree angle on
each of the 2 vertical perforation lines. Then . . .
. . . apply double-stick narrow tape to side edges
(and to upper and lower edges as well if desired).
9. Roughly align the window panel with the front panel
of the box hull, then insert it into the hull.
Line up the perforations with the wall bends,
and center it behind the oval window . . .
. . . making sure that it does not extend past
the bottom flap bend line.
10. Prepare to close the bottom latch shapes by first
identifying the 'A' and 'B' symbols cut into three
of the extensions. Then proceed to bend each
in toward center in sequence:
first fold 'A' extension, then . . .
. . . fold both 'B' extensions inward.
Next, fold the remaining "triangle" extensions pair
inward, and finally . . .
. . . fold the "tab" extension inward.
Bend the 'A' extension (and others as needful)
slightly downward into the tube to allow the tab end
to slip into the slot that is formed; allow all
tabs to return to their perpendicular positions.
NOTE that it may be helpful to insert a rod-like tool
into the box tube interior to assist with this repositioning.
11. To help reinforce the bottom of the box and add
strength and shape, insert the "floor" hexagon into
the interior of box, and use tool to help slide it down
into position, flush with bottom latch panels.
(If you don't plan to 'unfold' and store the box for
subsequent use later, this hex panel can be
glued into place.)
12. Apply glue to the backside of tip accent overlay,
then position over tip and align center perforations
and interior cut outs. Also align outer edges as much
as possible, but be aware that stock thickness of
hull will cause a very slight offset at very edge.
Repeat for the remaining 5 tip overlays.
13. Fill the box with contents from top, then cinch
the narrow neck segments inward. NOTE that there
will remain an approx. 5/8" diameter opening even
with the cinching as tight as it will possibly pull in.
Tie cord, twine or narrow ribbon to hold the cinching.
SNOWFLAKE DANGLE TAG
14. Simple preparation/assembly of the snowflake
as a gift tag includes cutting the rounded hexagon
double name tag, folding at the half perf line, then
centering that on the backside of the cut snowflake.
15. Open the tag and hand-pen the name of recipient.
Use a tiny bit of temp tape or part of an adhesive
dot to keep the tag closed if desired.
NOTE that from the front of the snowflake,
the contrast of the tag will show through at center.
16. Add narrow ribbon through top tip hole,
and optionally slip ends through a bead as
decoration; tie ends in overhand knot, etc.
Here you can see the snowflake tag
on the snowflake tips box.
