Dove Hanging Ornament

Dimensional bird ornament is composed of outer hull
with curved contour lines that bend back to define
top of body, teardrop trio wing cut outs, eyes,
and double-punch hang holes.
Inner hull is slightly offset to provide contrast interest
at tail and lower body edges and show-thru
at wing and eye cut outs.
A curving “bridge” wedge provides bottom body shaping.
Create a flurry of peaceful dove ornaments on a tree,
from chandelier, as a wreath element, or nestled
among the dinnerware as a table favor.
Ornament measures approx. 4.975” beak to tail
x 2.625” tall x 1.375” deep.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A main body shape
B inner body shape
C inner body lower edge boxing
2. Carefully bend along the curved perforation lines that
define the bird's back, taking care . . .
. . . to pinch the crease in all the way to cut edges
of each curve line at the head back and tail ends.
3. Slightly bend each wing upward along
the perforation.
4. Prepare the inner body in a similar manner,
carefully bending along body back curve perforations.
5. Prepare the partial boxing strip by bending back
slightly along the cross perforations, and also
bending the side tabs back to approx. 90 degree angle.
6. On the rounded bottom edge of each side of
the inner body, locate the pair of alignment guide
dash cut marks which indicate the center of the boxing.
Then apply adhesive to the center tab, and position
it at the guide marks, with boxing segment perf line
nearly even with the curve body edge, but upward
the slightest bit.
Press the boxing tab in place.

7. Form the boxing into a gentle curve that more or less
matches the body curve edge, apply adhesive then
apply pressure along the tabs to attach to the back of
the body. NOTE in the picture below that the boxing
edge is not aligned exactly along body edge.
8. Repeat the positioning and attaching of the opposite
side of the boxing, using the guide dash marks on
opposite body curve edge to get . . .
. . . the second body side
to attach in a way that matches first side.
9. Fit the main body over and around the inner body
so that . . .
. . . hang holes of each layer align. Also align top of head
edges align as much as they can, as well as
tail to body transition. NOTE that the inner body is
longer than the main body, and the tail edge is longer
to provide some contrast visible at these areas.
10. Cut a length of gold or other color of choice
twine or hanging wire. Insert through body hollow
to come through hang holes. Tie knot and bow.
Here is the completed dove ornament.
