Christmas Tree Stitched Wheels A6 Card

Ten stitched partial or complete “wheel” motifs in four rows
create the Christmas tree silhouette with simple cross-stitched trunk.
Stitching holes allow for 3-ply floss stitches to be added
as “spokes” through center holes.
Optionally add colored jewels or studs to cover centers.
“Print & cut” front panel includes printed words “MERRY CHRISTMAS”
across bottom. Middle overlay creates a narrow contrast border.
Card measures approx. 4.63” wide x 6.25” tall when folded.
Pattern and quantity of stitches is simple enough
for children to help stitch.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A side fold card base
B offset accent panel
C front "print & cut" front panel with stitching holes
D tree shape with star overlay
2. Follow basic "print & cut" instructions to prepare
and print the white cardstock panel page, then . . .
. . . position the page on the cutting sheet . . .
. . . and cut the front panel shape with the "MERRY
CHRISTMAS' printed words.
3. Prepare the stitching hole punched shapes by
using a tool (such as this un-bent paper clip)
to push through all "chad" cut outs that may still
be attached or in pre-cut positions. Brush off
all "crumbs" possible.
4. Position and attach the star overlay.
5. Position and carefully align the tree shape
on the front of front panel so that all the stitching holes
align as exactly as possible. Use the punch-out tool
to help with alignment, if necessary, then attach in place.
To assist the shapes to attach well and remain flat
and not warp or curl during the liquid adhesive
drying process, press flat on a flat work surface using
a heavy flat weigh such as this large, thick book volume,
possibly with something heavy on top.
6. Select the 6-ply embroidery floss color for the wheel
tree accents.
Then separate out three plies and line up the lead ends,
straighten out the lengths so there will be no tangling.
Thread lead ends through eye of blunt-tip tapestry
needle size 24 or equivalent.
7. Determine where you will begin stitching;
sample project begins at top wheel.
Use a small strip of cello tape to secure the tail ends
near beginning point.
8. Insert the needle through the first hole to begin
the first wheel unit. Suggested starting point is
top wheel lower left outer hole.
Pull thread all the way through
leaving no slack.
9. Insert needle down through center wheel hole.
10. Continue the stitching UP through the next up adjacent
stitching hole, and down through the center hole,
and repeat until all stitches in top wheel are complete,
as shown here. Thread ends on backside.
11. Move downward to the closest unstitched wheel
and continue to stitch. When floss length is completely
used, finish with needle on backside, trim ends to
.75"-1" and secure with small cello tape strip.
12. Re thread another set of 3 strands of floss,
and tape ends near re-start position.
13. Continue to complete the wheels stitches.
14. NOTE that there are two stitching holes
that are shared by the adjacent wheels
on second, third and fourth rows.
15. As stitching is completed to mid-point of
bottom row, move down to complete the trunk
cross stitches: first complete the slant stitches
in one direction across top row, then work back
across row to complete the slant stitches of same row.
16. Complete the trunk cross stitches, then . . .
. . . move back up to complete the final wheels.
When stitching is complete, finish with the needle
and floss on the backside, tape off and trim floss.
17. Position and attach stitched panel securely
on accent panel with narrow margin exposed
all around.
18. Position and attach the front panel assembly
onto the front panel of card base with even margin
exposed all around.

Christmas Tree Folded Edge 5x7 Easel Card

Attached, folded tree decorates the left edge of
quickly-assembled flat card with optional back easel
that can fit into a 5x7 envelope.
Use two-tone (front and back) card stock
for the contrast effect between swoop boughs and
edge-decorated punch circles.
Shapes also included for front offset accent
base panel, with accent two-layer panels and
word cuts “Merry” and “Christmas”, back sentiment panel.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A main card base: cut from two-tone (front/back) card stock
B front accent offset panel  C tree star
D front plaque accent panel
E front offset plaque accent base
F 'Merry' and 'Christmas' word cuts
G back panel with easel cut out   H back sentiment panel
2. Prepare the main card base by bending on tree
perforations, beginning with "valley" fold at longest
line (indicated by pointing finger), then
alternating as "mountain", then "valley" and
so forth
moving upward.
3. Fold the tree segments on top of each other
and crease well.
4. Use sticky dots or equivalent to attach the right side
tree layers together - attaching under the overlapping
segment, centering the dot.
NOTE: leave the bottom-most section free
for now (the one overlapping the card face)
Repeat the sticky dot application for the left
side overlapping segments.
5. Position and attach the offset accent face
to the front of the card.
6. Position and center the smaller front accent plaque
shape onto the plaque base, and attach together.
7. Position the plaque onto the card front so that
it is centered to the top edge width, and near
the upward portion of the card front, and attach.
8. Apply sticky dots to the underside of the tree
near vertical center line (allows dimension to remain)
then press the tree into position over the card front.
9. Position and attach the word cuts.
10. Position and attach the star
(NOTE if the star is too high, the card may NOT
fit into a 5x7 envelope, so if you plan to enclose
in a card for gifting or sending, check the positioning
before final attachment).
11. If using the plain back, position it on the backside
of the card to reinforce and strengthen the card.
Also position and attach the sentiment plaque.
12. If using the optional easel back, prepare it by
bending easel 'triangle' back toward the right,
then replacing it into flat position.
Also bend the latch down along the perforation,
then replace to flat position.
13. Here is the easel shape in open position,
(seen from the backside)
with the triangle easel at perpendicular vertical,
and the latch bent down with the notch flexed to
hold the easel cut out edge fixed so it will stand.
NOTE: the backside face area visible from this side
is the ONLY portion that will have adhesive applied.
14. Apply adhesive as described above, then
position with offset margin at rounded edges top
and side. At the bottom edge . . .
. . . the protrusion of the easel triangle should
be even with the card base bottom edge.
Attach in place, making sure that the easel
and latch DO NOT attach to card back.
15. Position and attach the narrower sentiment
plaque in the area shown.
16. Review step 13 to open easel and secure
latch/brace.
This is how the card looks when standing
with back easel.

Patchwork Evergreen Shaped 5x7 Card

Go totally patchwork or select more limited pattern play
for this shaped card that fits into a 5x7 envelope.
Triangles in gradated sizes across four tiers plus
stubby trunk are composed on a front silhouette,
then attached to the offset card front with base.
Back side panels have a perforation that will allow
each to swing away from tree shape to form
a triangular "stand".
A simple sentiment tag can be put on
outside back panel, or inside behind card front.
Measures approx. approx. 5x7 when closed.

ASSEMBLE: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A card base (offset margin around tree shape)
B & C left and right back panels (include perforations)
D assembly base
E trunk
F tier 4 shapes
G tier 3 shapes
H tier 2 shapes
I tier 1 shapes
Not shown: message medallion
2. Position and attach the trunk shape onto
the silhouette base shape at center bottom
where edges match up.
3. Position and attach the left shape on bottom
(tier 4) shape where side and bottom edges
match up.
4. Position and attach the next shape to
the right of first shape, abutting edges, and
matching top edges, overlapping the trunk shape.
5. Position and attach the next shape in similar
manner, with center straight edges  snugged up
against each other, tops and bottom tips matched.
6. Position and attach the final right shape
as for the first shape on this tier, snugged up
to the adjacent shape edge, top even, left side
and bottom edges aligned with silhouette base.
7. Repeat steps 3-6 for next tier (#3), and then
for tiers #2 and #1.
8. Prepare the card base by bending forward
on the vertical perforation lines of each back shape.
9. Position the card front side point edges over
the corresponding back shape, backsides together,
and cut edges lined up as precisely as possible.
10. Repeat for the opposite side.
The two back sides can overlap to close card
into flat position.
Also NOTE that the back panels can swing
outward to provide the self stand for the tree.
11. Position the composed front card silhouette
assembly onto the front card base, with even
offset margin all around.
12. If desired, position and attach the message
plaque on the backside of card front
(with back panels in open position). Or . . .
. . . plaque can fit on the outer back panel layer.

Here is the completed card.
