Sides fold inward to "connect"
the
half flower sections at center front,
with a small layered bee embellishment.
Inner petal shapes for coloration options.
Flower centers are engineered with
extra middle layers that provide a tab (right)
hidden recess (left) that
help the halves fit together.
Card back panel includes paired slots near sides
to thread narrow ribbon through that is brought around
to front for tied
closure.
Measures
approx. 5.875"x 5.875" when closed.
ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A card base with left and right pairs of folds
that allow the card to close up and open
B sunflower arc base with overlay "petals" - left
C sunflower arc base with overlay "petals" - right
D half circle flower "center" left half base with
patterned paper overlay
E underlay shapes for 'D' above, with insert tab cutout (2)
F half circle flower "center" right half base with
patterned paper overlay
G underlay shapes for 'F' above with tab extension (2)
H interior card panel (for signing, stamping, message, etc.)
I seal circle for optional ribbon closure (affixes to backside)
J bee "embellishment" shapes: base/wings, body, stripes, eyes
2. Bend the card base on the perforations so that
the two folds closest to center are "valley" folds,
and the outer two folds are "mountain folds.
2A. Cut a 12-15" length of narrow coordinated ribbon
with a width (approx. 1/8") that will fit through card base
slots. Thread from backside of card base through
pairs of slots, inward/outward, inward/outward,
then match up ends to balance length across back.
3. Prepare the left and right petal arcs by positioning
and attaching the 8 petal shapes offset within
the corresponding positions.
4. Position the left arc (shown) over the inside surface
of the card base where petal edges align, and attach.
Repeat for the right side arc.
5. Layer, align edges precisely, and glue together
the two built-up layers for the left side underlay
that will provide a place for the opposite side's tab
to slip in and allow the card front to fit together.
6. Repeat Step 5 for the right tab side shapes, creating a thick built-up shape.
7. Position the accent half circle print shape on top
of the tab cutout LEFT built-up shape, align straight edges
that are the center edge of the sunflower parts,
with offset edges long curve edge, and glue together.
8. Position and attach the right side accent half circlein similar manner, offsetting the accent within the curve
outer right edge, and lining up the straight "center" edges
along the portion of the tab base where they should align.
9. Place the built-up shapes from Steps 7 & 8
under a flat heavy object
such as a thick book or other weight, and allow
to dry thoroughly (up to several hours or overnight).
10. Apply glue to the underside of the left half circle
assembly around cutout indent, then . . .
. . . position into the half-circle space which hides
the tab insertion hollow at left sunflower
arc.
Repeat for the right half with tab extension.
Press with heavy flat object until dry.
11. Position and attach the interior message panel
at the interior panel of card base. NOTE this will
hide the ribbon threading and secure that in place.
12. Here is how the card closes: fold the left and right
side halves of sunflower head toward each other . . .
. . . then when near enough to each other, insert the tabunder the top layers of the sunflower half circle so
that it fits neatly into the hollow created by the built-up
center edges abut. Bring the ribbon ends around to the front
and tie into neat knot and bow to secure the card
in closed position.
On the backside, affix the circle seal at center,
gluing the ribbon in place.
13. Layer the bee embellishment by gluing theyellow body over the center of the base/wings
shape where head and tail edges align.
Position and attach stripes shape over body,
with eyes onto head, as shown.
14. Position and attach the bee onto one side
Very cute card!
