Pie Tin 3D Tray

Replica pie plate can be used as a gift or
display container, with six inch base circle,
flared walls and horizontal .375” wide rim rings.
Base is strengthened through doubled and
stacked circle layers, rim is doubled.
Wall accents (exterior fluting, interior accent strips) help
strengthen walls. Companion to separate design
“Box Pie 3D Wedge”, and is sized to hold 6 slices.
Tin measures approx. 7.625” diameter x 1” tall.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A tin bottom interior circle
B tin bottom exterior circle with edge notch
(1 face plus more for thickness)
C pie walls arch (2)
D rim ring top
E under-rim ring
F interior accent swirl arcs (4)
G exterior wall ridge arcs (8)
2. Prepare the bottom exterior base circle by first
identifying the round shape (slightly smaller
than the interior shape) by locating the small notch
at edge.
Layer base (face) circle with strengthening layer(s)
with edges aligned as precisely as possible,
and glue together. If using liquid glue, press flat
under a heavy flat weight until thoroughly dried,
several hours or over night, to minimize warping
or curling.
3.  Add some forward curl to each of the wall arcs
using a rod-shaped tool such as a round pencil or
.75" diam or larger dowel. (Check Step 10 for image
that shows adding curl to the wall accents.)
4. DO NOT BEND THE END FLANGE as you would a tab!
Align the ends of sections to overlap the straight
edge (shown on left here) across the opposite flange
to dash guide marks, and join seam. Then . . .
. . .  form the joined strips into a ring to align, overlap
and join the second side seam.
5. Bend the top edge tabs back all around. Then . . .
. . . bend bottom edge tabs inward.
6. Apply glue to the upward surface (inside the ring)
of the bottom tabs, then position the interior base circle
inside the ring, adjust so it fits snugly and evenly
all around.
Apply fingertip pressure all around to completely
join edge of circle to tabs underneath.
(Lift and check bottom surface to see if tabs
are ALL joining in place.)
Run a thumbnail all around at "crease" where
ring and circle base come together to help the circle
get seated in place and evenly.
7. Apply adhesive to the underside of the exterior
base circle assembly, then position, centered
and within rim edge, and press in place.
TIP: one way to help the tin bottom get thoroughly
attached is to place small objects with rounded edge
into the tin bowl all around at edge then place a heavy
weight on top to press edges over a period of time.
8. Identify the under-rim ring with notch at inner edge,
then . . .
. . . with tin assembly inverted on work surface,
apply glue to the downward face of rim tabs.
Slip the under-rim ring over tin bottom . . .
. . . and move it down into place at tab perforations.
Adjust so that walls rim fits evenly within ring
all around, then apply fingertip pressure all around.
9. Apply adhesive to upper rim underside then position
over tin and adjust to align under-rim edges,
enclosing walls tabs between the two rim layers.
If possible, use a series of heavy objects placed around
the inverted tin assembly to help press the rims
until glue dries, to help minimize warping.
10. Carefully add forward to the interior swirl accents
(take care with pop-out portions of the cut shape,
possibly changing the curl action of tool to a
"rolling" action to add the shape).
11. To help position pairs of the accent arcs around
inside surface of wall, locate the seam, then . . .
. . . position the first arch with end aligned next to
the seam edge. Accent should also be centered
vertically between wall upper and lower edges.
Continue to add the other accent arcs, evenly spaced
(with a pair of arcs between walls joining seams;
arcs should nearly touch each other).
12. Prepare the exterior "fluting" ridge accents by
adding curl to the base connecting strip of each.
13. Position the ext. accents at lower wall edge
and spaced evenly . . .
. . . around walls (ends may nearly touch).
Pie tin is complete.
Consider adding one or more -
 - up to six -
pie slice boxes as pie tin contents.
