Mother’s Day Stitched Border Card

Create a unique 5x7card to express
Mother’s Day sentiment.
Let selected multi-color card base determine
two floss colors to complete long-stitch fans and
squares lower border on front panel.
A separate upper panel overlay includes
“print & cut” phrase “WISHING YOU A HAPPY”
which is completed with fancy “Mother’s Day”
welded word cut out.
(Plain panel is also included for other options.)
Embellish with tied narrow ribbon.

Substitute a “Birthday” fancy welded word separate design
to swap the celebration focus while still
creating the stitched border panel.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A card base (shown folded here)
B front stitching hole panels (2 to layer for strength)
C top panel (print & cut phrase option)
D Mother's Day words cut out
(NOT SHOWN: contrast strip for tulip cutouts;
see Step 5)
2 embroidery floss colors
2. Prepare the stitching hole punched shapes by
using a tool (such as this un-bent paper clip)
to push through all "chad" cut outs that may still
be attached or in pre-cut positions. Brush off
all "crumbs" possible.
3. Position and carefully align the stitching panel shapes
so that all the stitching holes align as exactly
as possible.
Use the punch-out tool to help with alignment,
if necessary, then attach layers in place.
To assist the shapes to attach well and remain flat
and not warp or curl during the liquid adhesive
drying process, press flat on a flat work surface using
a heavy flat weigh such as this large, thick book volume,
possibly with something heavy on top.
4. Follow this LINK to view a similar stitched border card
tutorial and complete stitching as directed in Steps 5-10.
5. If desired, position and attach the contrast strip
behind the tulip cutouts row.
6. Prepare the print & cut front upper panel with
"WISHING YOU A HAPPY" printed phrase.
Estimate where the tied ribbon will be placed,
if including that, then position and attach
Mother's Day cut out shape centered between.
(Or substitute the "Birthday" word cutout as desired.)
Tie on ribbon.
7. Position and attach prepared upper panel onto
stitched panel, centered side to side, and with
same narrow offset margin at top.
8. Position front card assembly onto the front panel
portion of folded card base with equal offset margins
at sides and top, wider margin below, and attach.
Here is the completed card which will fit into
a 5x7 envelope.
