Christmas 3D Quilt Stand With Quilt Minis

Christmas standhas dimensional ends 

with offset accent overlays (with folk heart flourish),

The assembly guide instructions

for these two follow the stand instructions.

QUILT STAND ASSEMBLY:

1. This "new" version of the 3D display stand is

constructed in the same fashion as the "original"

"Quilt 3D Display Stand which can be found

at this post on this blog.

2. SHAPES: cut the same shapes as identified

in the other blog post (A-G, J & K),

noting that A & B will NOT have the heart cutout

in this "Christmas" version, and that K outer accent

will look like the left shapes below, with the

folk art decor motif cut shapes as shown.

Also, the shapes shown below at right are 

inner accent shapes, a shape not used in the original.

3. Follow the original stand assembly steps,

beginning at Step 7 (this omits the heart cutout prep).

Before Step 8, position and attach the 

inner overlay shapes shown above, left,

over the inside panels.

Continue working through Step 12 as described. 

Skip Steps 13, then continue with Step 14

(obviously omitting references to gluing to

heart cutout flanges, etc.), and continue

through Step 23.

4. Before Step 24, prepare the "new"

outer panel overlays by positioning

and attaching the accent shapes as shown in
the following photo.

TIP: One way to assist with the positioning

is to create a positioning guide by keeping

the flourishes, heart and small punch circle

grouped together as they are when the file 

opens up, then arrange

that group as an isolated cutting design on the

cutting mat, and cutting the group out of 

a scrap of card stock as a stencil.

Position the tracing stencil, centered on top

of the accent panel with the designs approx. 7/16"

down from the top straight panel edge,

then make some light guidemarks

with fine, sharp pencil.

(NOTE that this image is simulating

the tracing, even though the accent shapes

are already in position.)

5. Complete Step 25, placing the outer end

accents into position to finish the

display stand.

CHRISTMAS CACTUS QUILT MINI ASSEMBLY:

1. Identify and cut the shapes:

A main quilt panels (front, back)

B top quilt panel (bendy)

C side "binding" narrow border strips (4)

D end "mitered" narrow border strips (2)

E short side narrow borders strips (4)

F top panel end border strips (2)

G "block" base   H "berries" show thru panel

I top block panel   J cactus shape

2. Prepare the main and top quilt panels

by bending back on the perforations:

one near top of main panel; two at top panel edges.

3. Position and attach the narrow side borders

to the side edges of the main quilt panels

(below perforation lines).

4. Position and attach the bottom "miter" border

strip to the end edge, and short side borders

to the upper edges (above perforation lines)

5. Position and attach the top panel short strips

to the side edges between perforation lines.

6. Overlap one main panel top edge over the

punch hole edge of the top panel, taking care

to align side edges and punch holes,

and glue in place.

7. Prepare to complete the lacing of the main

and top panels by cutting a 20" length of perle cotton,

soft twine, or 6-ply floss and thread onto the

smallest tapestry-style needle that will fit the

"thread" you are using. Tape one end to backside

of main panel near one end of the row of punch holes.

8. Insert needle into the end hole, from back to front . . .

. . . push to the front, and pull all the way through.

Complete the first stitch by inserting the needle

down into the second hole and pull

all the way through.

Continue to complete the stitches in the same

manner all the way across the row . . .

. . . to the final stitch, inserting the needle through

to the backside.

9. "Park" the needle away to one side, then

overlap and attach the second main panel

as shown in Step 6.

10. Prepare to complete the second row of

stitches by passing the needle across the back

of the top panel to insert in the first hole,

then continue the stitching process across

the complete length of the second row,

with the final stitch bringing the needle and

"thread" to the backside of the assembly.

11. Cut a tail of approx. 1" . . .

. . . and anchor the end with a small piece of tape

like the anchor to attach at the beginning.

Also attach the crossing stitch between the

two rows, to keep it in place while on the stand.

12. Assemble the cactus by layering and attaching

the top block layer over the berry "show-thru" layer,

then position and attach the cactus shape

centered on the diagonal.

Position and attach the cactus assembly centered

on the main block panel.

13. Position and attach the block on the front

of the main quilt panel.

14. Place the quilt mini over the stand top pole

so that the top panel is "balancing" there,

with the front and back panels hanging downward.

Here is the completed cactus quilt mini on the stand.

TRIANGLE TREES QUILT MINI

1. Identify and cut the shapes:

A inner frame border  B main assembly panel

C tree base "blocks" (4)  D tree shape (4)

E inner triangle shape (4)

F trunk rectangles (4)

G optional 5x5 card base (to convert

the cactus or triangle tree block into a card front)

2. Position and attach the narrow frame on
the assembly base, taking care to align all
outer edges as precisely as possible.

3. Position each tree at the center of its block

with base edge aligned at bottom edge,

and attach in place.

4. Position and attach the trunk rectangle over

the corresponding portion of the tree shape.

5. Position the inner triangle shape over the center

of the tree shape so that the bottom point is

centered and touches the trunk shape.

Complete four tree blocks.

6. Place the first block snugly into the corner

inside the narrow frame, and attach in place.

Position and attach the remaining three blocks

into the other positions within frame, taking care

to snug them into each corner and next to

adjacent blocks.

6. Position and attach the triangle trees block

onto the front main panel, in the same manner

as the cactus block was attached in Step 13

of that quilt mini assembly.

Or, prepare the card base then position

and attach the triangle trees "block" or the

cactus "block" onto the front of the card.

Quilt 3d Display Stand

ASSEMBLY: 
1. Identify and cut the shapes:

A outside "front" panels
B inside "back" panels
C tall boxing strips  D short boxing strips
E arch boxing strips
F & G covers for openings
H heart insert fronts & backs
I heart insert boxing strips
J pole strips (3)  K front panel accents
NOT SHOWN: Z interior support strips (2)

2. Prepare the heart inset by bending back all the
strip tabs along both edges of two strips.
Also bend on the cross perf lines so that the strip
can form a heart silhouette as shown below.
3. Bend the bottom tab "forward" so that it can
tuck up behind the opposite strip end,
and glue in place.

4.  Compete TWO heart inset units.

Position the back side of the first "front" heart shape

over the bent-back tabs of the tabs strip,

with the inner opening edges lined up at

strip perforation edges. 

Match the point at

the center of the heart with the

center 'pivot' perforation, and also line up

the segment perforation edges at the corresponding

heart edges, and glue the top two tabs in place

on heart's back surface.

5. Line up the remaining edges and tab perf edges

along each side to center bottom, to line up

and attach each segment in place.

6. Position the second "back" side of the heart inset
by positioning the heart shape with backside
over the bent-back tabs,
adjust each tab to align with corresponding
perforation edge of strip, beginning
at the center top, then working around
as was done for the "front" heart.

7. Prepare TWO stand side supports.
Prepare the boxing strips by bending the
edge tabs back. For the side strips, bend the
cross perforations back. 
For the bottom 'arch' strip, bend the ends 
and end tabs back,
and bend the remaining cross perf lines
between ends forward, as shown.

Arrange strips in order (as shown above)
by referring to the tiny cut symbols near the ends
or in the end tabs, like the triangle shown here
that shows which ends will join as the strips
are attached around the 'face' shapes.

8. Position the first side of the 'front' face shape

to align the long side edge at the perforation

line of the corresponding segment of boxing strip,

and join.

9. Bend the next segment of the boxing strip
to align with the corresponding segment edge
of the face shape, adjust, and glue in place.
10. Continue working around the edge to
line up and join each segment of strip to
edge of face shape until sides and top 
are completed.

11. Attach ends of bottom arch strip by under-lapping

end tab beneath straight end edge of

symbol-matched end  . . .

. . .for both ends.

12. Position the segments of the strip around
the segments of the panel, adjust to align
as exactly as possible, and glue in place.

13.  Position and attach the heart inset behind
the inside face of the panel assembly . . .

. . . turning the construction to the face side
to align the heart cutout edges of each
as precisely as possible.

NOTE that it may be helpful to use a narrow rod
tool such as the spatula tool shown here
to reach between projections to apply pressure
to the tabs and panel backside.

14. Bend all the tabs from the first panel assembly

toward the center.

15. Position the outer panel backside over the

tabs and second face of the heart inset,

adjust, and glue in place . . .

. . . using the large finger hole, plus . . .

. . . top hole cutout, and . . .

. . . bottom "foot" holes to help apply pressure.
Shown here, a rod tool such as a knitting needle
is inserted into the foot hole and placed
behind the long side tab being glued in place
to provide a "press against" surface.

16. Prepare the pole strips by bending back

on each of the long perforations.

(Leave the end tabs un-bent until later.)

17. Apply glue to the long tab, then form
the strip into a tube to overlap the straight long
edge over the tab to perforation line,
and gluing in place.
NOTE that it will be helpful to use a 5/16" diam.
dowel as a "press against" surface,
to help form the pole tube.

18. Compress the end tabs slightly . . .

. . . then insert the end through the first side

support unit (from the solid inside

through to the outer finger-hole side) . . .

. . . and through the hex opening.

19. Bend the end tabs outward, flat against

the outer support face, and glue in place.

20. Repeat the pole end inserting process

for the lower two poles.

NOTE that is the tabs catch behind the second

opening edge, insert a narrow tool

to help guide the "stuck" tab into position

to be inserted into and through the hex hole.

21. Prepare the Z strip interior supports by

bending side tab flanges back, bending on

cross perf lines one forward, one back

to form the 'Z' shape shown here.

22. Insert the support into the large finger
opening, apply glue to the tabs, then slide
ends under the panel edge and glue in place.

23. If desired, cut three lengths of 5/16" diam.

dowel and insert one through the pole

opening at end, and slide all the way inside.

24. Apply adhesive to the backside of the

panel accents, then position over each end to

conceal the construction openings, and glue in place.

NOTE that . . .

. . . the lower 'foot' ends are aligned,

while other edges are offset slightly.

25. Position and attach the opening covers,

on 'feet' ends . . .

. . . and top opening.
