Dracula 3D Block Box

This Halloween shelf-sitter masquerades as
a decorated wood block, but is actually a box
composed of close-fitting lid and base.
Assemble “the block” LID and BASE,
layer the whimsical Dracula head
and attach on front of LID, then close box by
sliding BASE into bottom of LID and gluing in place
for a fun holiday display.
If preferred, it can be assembled as
a gift box for sweet treat giving.
Box measures approx. 5” wide x 6” tall x 1.375” deep.

(This tutorial is under construction.
Please return soon to view
the completed assembly guide.)

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes
(no shapes layout provided this time).
2. For the HEAD unit, but the face, hair, teeth,
and mouth liner.
3. Position and attach the hair at the top of the head,
and the mouth liner behind the mouth opening.
4. Position and attach the teeth with top slightly
shaped edges nestled against the top mouth
opening, moving them along the edge to find
the place where the the edges match, as shown.
5. Position and attach the contrast eye liner shape
behind the whole torso shape's eye cutout circles.
6. Position and attach the head unit over
the whole torso so that side and upper edges
align.
7. Cut and prepare the CAPE unit shapes.
8. Position and attach the collar shape over
the whole cape shape, matching edges that
should align.
9. Position and attach the neck sash, centered
side to side, and with top edges aligned
at the neck edge of collar/jacket shape.
10. Position and attach the CAPE unit on the lower
portion of the whole torso shape, tucking the upper
shaped edge snugly next to the head edge.
11. Position and attach the star to cover
the bottom of the sash, and centered side to side.
12. Identify and cut the LID 'front' shape and
the boxing strips, and the BASE 'back' shape
and boxing strips. The LID 'front' has 'TOP'
letters cut into it to differentiate between LID & BASE.
NOTE that the LID shapes will have the single
cut symbol in the center top (shown) and center
bottom tab; BASE strips will have double symbols.
13. Prepare the boxing strips by bending back
on all segment division line, and along top tabs
(for LID) and along bottom tabs (for BASE).
14. Join the short end portion to the lower LID or
BASE strip by overlapping the straight edge across
the tab's perforation line, adjusting top to bottom,
then gluing the seam.
15. Position the upper and lower strips around
the perimeter of the corresponding 'front' or 'back'
panel, and re-bend the segment perforation lines
of strips to match the edge corners.
16. Position the LID upper strip center tab at the top
segment edge, align, then . . .
. . . position with edge even with perforation line,
and glue tab in place to panel backside.
17. Bend the next segment of the strip into position
to align the edge and perf line and glue in place.
18. Continue to bend, align and attach each segment
in sequence, until all are in place along strip.
19. Repeat the process for the opposite half of
the top strip.
20. Position the tab end of the lower strip to attach
to the end of the top strip, align, overlap straight edge
to perf line, and glue to join seam.
21. Repeat the positioning and attachment of each
segment of the lower strip along the bottom segments
of front panel. When the final segment is being
positioned and attached, also arrange and position
the end tab to tuck under the upper strip end,
then attach both segments edges to complete joining.
22. Position the Dracula decorative assembly
on the front of the LID, with slight offset all around,
and glue in place.
23. Repeat the strips-to-back panel process by
first joining the short section to the lower strip,
then positioning each segment and joining as
was completed for LID.
NOTE that the BASE strips have double symbols
cut into the flange tab for identification.
24. Prepare the interior support strip by bending back
tabs and flanges on side end and top, bottom edges.
25. Apply glue to the bottom flange, and side tabs,
then insert into the BASE 'tray' at the position
that represents bottom of ears on decorative drac unit.
26. Align strip with angle as shown, on each side,
push wall in to meet end tab and glue each in place.
Also make sure that bottom flange is attached in place.
27. Prepare to close the box permanently (for block)
or test closure (for box) by aligning BASE under
LID and fitting together, pushing together completely.
If desired, glue weights in place below the reinforcement
strip, to assist in figure's 'stand-ability'.
28. For BLOCK, apply glue between LID and BASE walls,
then push the walls together to eliminate any
space as much as is possible all around.
Here is the completed block.
