Crocus 3D Flower with Stand

Diamond-shaped internal petals vessel provides structure
for outer blossoms to attach around.
Cubic stem “post” is strengthened with .125” wooden
dowel cut to size, which fits into blossom end,
with sepal “cup” at bottom to assist attachment.
Tall narrow leaves provide accents.
Tapered box, double scallop platform shapes
assist crocus to stand. Decorate with one, or with a cluster.
Flower measures approx. 7.5” tall x 1.5” wide (base);
blossom approx. 1.25” wide and deep.
Coordinates well with Flower Pot 3D Miniature design

and as a component for the BLOOM 3D Letter Box Ensemble.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A interior blossom box
B interior blossom separate panel
C outer petal "corners"
D interior blossom platform and reinforcement
E platform stack anchor squares (5-6)
F stamen tuft   G stem tube strip
H calyx "petals" (4)   I leaves
J opt. stand upright   K & L accent panels
M scallop base   N offset accent scallop
O stand stack anchor
P bottom scallop camouflage panel
2. ADVANCE PREP STEPS:
Position, align edges and center square opening
as precisely as possible, and glue together,
one by one into a stack.
Press the drying stack under a heavy, flat weight
such as this thick book volume, until the liquid glue
is completely dried (this may require hours).
This will help keep the stack flat, avoiding curling
and warping.
In similar manner, stack and join the box interior
anchor squares. Also bend forward
the anchor base tabs, then . . .
. . . position the anchor stack on the underside of
the anchor base, taking care to line up the interior
edges of the square hole cutouts of all layers.
Press the assembly under a flat heavy object until dry.
3. Prepare the interior blossom box shapes by bending
back on ALL panel and tab perforation lines.
Use a rod-like tool such as this crochet hook shaft
to add back curl to the petal tips.
4. Bend back the bottom segments of main box shape
to bring the plain straight edge to overlap the adjacent
tab, and join the seam. Repeat to join the second seam.
4. NOTE the positioning guide dash cuts near
the base of the petal edges.
Insert the anchor unit inside the blossom box
with tabs extending UPWARD, positioning the top
cut edges of tabs even with dash guide marks
on all three sides, then glue in place.
5. Prepare the stamen tuft by disconnecting the individual
segments from each other. Accordion fold the first
5 segments, then . . .
. . . roll/wrap the remainder of the strip around
the accordion-folded portion. Apply glue to secure
all segments in place at base.
6. Use the rod tool to further separate and shape
the tuft by adding "random" direction curl to each tip.
7. Apply quick-grab glue to the base end of the tuft
and then insert into center and attach over punch hole.
8. Prepare to create stem post by bending back
carefully along the four long perforation lines.
Identify the attachment "flange" edge by the angled ends.
9. Form the strip into a tube, overlapping the plain
straight long edge over the flange to perforation line,
and glue in place.
(When incorporating the blossom as part
of the BLOOM display, use longer stem post
shape, and shorter leaves that will attach
above the 'M' box top surface.)
10. NOTE that one best way to join this seam is
to press the square tube shape flat on working
surface (two sides on top, two on bottom),
and apply pressure along the full length rapidly
until edges are fully attached.
11. Re-configure the flat unit into a tube again,
then insert the .125" diam. wooden dowel end into
on end, and slide into place until lead end is even
with opposite cut end. NOTE this is a snug fit.
12.  Mark dowel at end of paper tube, then remove
or at least slide back outward, and saw/cut at line.
Apply glue into opposite hollow end of tube,
and push dowel back fully into tube.
13. Lay the stem unit inside the blossom box as shown
so that the bottom edges loosely wrap around stem,
with top inserted firmly into the square opening (apply dab
of adhesive in hole first).
14. Fold blossom box side tabs inward, then
position the separate petal shape over the opening
to replicate the other box petals positioning . . .
. . . and glue in place to tabs and anchor tab.
15. Prepare the outer petal corners by bending back
on the partial perforation line and creasing slightly.
Bend each petal corner back along perforations.
16. Bend back lower segments to bring straight edge
to overlap adjacent tab's perforation line, and join seam.
Repeat for all four petal corners.
17. Use a rod-like tool to add outward curl to tips.
18. Apply a generous amount of glue to the inside
surface of first blossom corner at lower segments
and at "corner" on each side of perforation line,
then fit over one corner of the interior blossom box,
press inward so that surfaces touch, and hold in place
until the glue is set and corner is thoroughly attached.
NOTE that the lower side edges should align
along the vertical centerline of interior blossom,
and eventually abut to adjacent attached petal corners.
19. Repeat positioning and attachment for
the remaining petal corners.
20. Prepare the calyx "petals" by bending back
on side tabs, and bending forward bottom tabs.
Position two petals so that straight side edge of one
overlaps side tab of adjacent petal to perforation line
of second, then join seam.
Continue to add third and fourth petals
in same manner, then . . .
. . . form the assembly into a ring to join the fourth seam.
21. Insert stem post bottom end through calyx ring
and slide ring upward toward blossom bottom.
Apply glue to inside surfaces of calyx ring, then
slide fully up into position to snugly fit against blossom.
Hold in place until glue is secure.
22. Apply glue to the underside of the bottom attachment
tabs, then . . .
. . . press against stem post to attach.
23. Prepare the stand by bending the upright
back on all panel segments, flanges and tabs.
24. Position and attach each accent shape offset
within their respective panels.
25. Bend side panels back into position to position
plain side edge to overlap adjacent tab to perf line,
and join seams. NOTE it may be helpful to place
a "press-against" surface such as a stiff plexi ruler
or pencil behind the seam while joining.
Complete all four seams.
26. Position scallop accent shape on top of scallop base
shape, adjust so that base openings are centered
under accent openings, and attach in place.
27. Position anchor stack (from step 2) over center
of scallop base shapes, taking care that the post opening
edges of all are aligned as precisely as possible,
then attach in place. Press under a flat weight until
glue is dried.
28. Position tabs above base slots, then insert each
fully through to backside . . .
. . . then bend outward and glue in place
to base backside.
29. Apply a dab of quick-grab glue into the post
opening, then . . .
. . . insert stem bottom end through top hole of
upright, and through interior, then move and adjust
end until . . .
. . . it "slots into" post opening in stack
and scallop base units. Push through just until
all edges are flush.
30. Position and attach the bottom scallop shape
to hide the tabs and stem opening.
31. Add slight curl to the middle portion of petal strips,
then . . .
. . . position and attach to the side surfaces . . .
. . . on each side of stem post.
Here is the completed crocus or mini tulip with stand.
