Package Box with Santa S and Bow

Traditional style package lid fits snugly over tall base,
decorated with offset round corner accent panels
on lid and front, with 3D lattice bow and
bend-fit streamers on top, fancy ‘S’ letter on front,
optional barely-arched plaque and
word cut out “Santa” on front.
Create either the simple version lid or the optional lid
(with dimensional rim plus size adjusted accent,
bow & streamer.)
Project can be used as treat or gift box, or
as seasonal decoration.
Consider using alternate phrases from
“Santa Plaque Phrases Trio” separate design,
with duplicate arch size and shape.

Box measures approx. 3.5” wide x 5.625” tall when closed;
bow with streamers measures approx. 2.75” top to bottom
x 5.25” tip to tip.
Requires 12x12 card stock and cutting capacity
for largest shape (hull).

NOTE that the more complex-build rimmed lid
assembly instruction begins in Step 18.

ASSEMBLY:  1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A main package hull    B front accent shape
C front 'S' fancy letter overlay
D "Santa" word cut out overlay for plaque
E arch plaque
F simple lid main shape   G simple lid accent
H lattice bow for simple lid
I streamers shape for simple lid
Substitute these shapes for more complex lid
that includes a narrow dimensional rim:
J rimmed lid main shape
K rimmed lid top accent
L streamers shape for rimmed lid
M lattice bow for rimmed lid
2. Prepare the main package hull shape by bending
back on perforation lines for all panels and flanges.
3. While the hull shape remains in flat state,
position the front accent panel onto the hull's
front panel area and attach in place.
Also position and attach the 'S' accent onto
the accent panel, centered side to side, but
also slightly lower than center top to bottom.
(Match bottom margin to the lower sides margin
between 'S' widest edges.)
4. Bend the hull's top flanges back,
leaving the farthest left flange unbent and unglued
until after the long side seam is glued in Step 6.
Glue rim flanges in place behind hull and apply
fingertip pressure until smooth and secure.
(To assist this edge not to ripple, work on a flat surface
and place a heavy flat object over glued flanges
until thoroughly dried.)
5. Form the hull into it's box form to overlap straight
side edge across opposite side flange, adjust
for top and bottom alignment, then glue in place.
NOTE that the symmetry of the hull allows the shape
to be flattened to glue the seam . . .
. . . and apply distributed pressure until fully secure.
6. Bend the final top rim edge flange back
to inside and glue in place.
7. At hull bottom, bend three flanges in at
right angles, apply glue, then bend the bottom
panel into position, align straight edges with
perforation edges and glue in place.
8. Either now or later when box is complete,
position the plaque and 'Santa' word cut out
at the lower front panel, centered, and approx.
1/4" above bottom hull edge.
SIMPLE HULL ASSEMBLY
9. Prepare the simple hull shape by bending back
on all perforations for panels, all side walls,
bend-under rim flanges and side wall tabs.
10. Position and attach the top accent panel onto
the top lid panel with narrow offset margin all
around between accent and panel perforation lines.
(Bow brad holes should line up.)
11. Form the lid into a tray by bending side walls
up into place, tucking tabs behind adjacent walls
and gluing in place.
12. Bend edge flanges to the inside of lid tray
and glue in place. Work to keep the lid walls
smooth and unrippled.
LATTICE BOW ASSEMBLY
13. Use a narrow rod-like tool to add back curl
to the center-only portion of each loop extension.
14. Gently bring ends together on bow backside
(avoid bending and creasing loop ends) to align
punch holes of all three layers, and glue in place.
15. Also prepare the streamer shape ends by
bending downward at perforation lines near ends.
NOTE that the perf lines do not run completely
to front edge of streamer - do continue the bend
where perforations would extend, giving those
bends a softer, uncut appearance.
Position the bow over the streamers with all holes
lined up, rotate the bow slightly to make sure it is
centered and not tipped, then glue together.
16. Insert a mini brad through punch holes of
bow assembly and through lid, then bend prongs
on lid underside to secure. Add glue as desired.
17. Close the package box by easing the lid onto
the top of hull.
Here is the completed project with simple lid.
   RIMMED LID
18. Prepare the lid by bending back on all perforation
lines, as for simple lid.
NOTE that each of the four walls will wrap under
to form rims, completing a sort of  . . .
. . . overlapping 'O' when completely wrapped.
19. Bend walls back with tabs tucked behind walls
to complete four corner seams.
(NOTE that the top accent shape should be
positioned and attached prior to forming walls.)
20. Working at short ends first, form the 'O' bends
wrap of the wall extension, then . . .
. . . apply glue to the final segment and the outer
narrowest segments before . . .
. . . re-bending into its final position to attach
narrow inward face to underside of top panel,
inward wrap wall behind outer side wall.
21. Repeat for opposite end wall wrapped rim.
22. Repeat the same process to bend wrap long
front or back walls in similar manner, applying
glue to designated wrapped-under edges, then . . .
. . . wrapping and gluing in place.
NOTE that at corners, the long walls include
a miter wrap-over that should overlap "squared up"
side wall corners as shown here.
23. Prepare the rimmed lid bow assembly in same
fashion as for simple lid, position and attach.
24. Add the rimmed lid to box hull in by simiply
sliding onto top.
Here is the rimmed lid completed project.
