Coney Dog Box with Candy Cane Topper

A nostalgic box for contents requiring a longer format,
this one-piece, tied tabs closure box is a replica
of lunch stand hot dog take away container.
Cut from Christmas print, it can be a seasonal gift box.
Assemble the miniature candy cane (nearly life size)
as a fun, coordinated lid embellishment that can be
untied and adapted into an ornament.
Box measures approx. 6.25” long x 2.5” wide x 2.5” deep.
Candy cane measures approx. 5” long x 1.625” wide.
(Requires 12x12 card stock and cutting capacity
for box hull shape.)

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A main hull shape
B lid top accent shape
C & D candy cane topper hook & shaft
CANDY CANE
2.  Follow this LINK to find assembly instructions
for a similar but slightly smaller 3D candy cane
(Steps 2-8).
Then return to continue
the box with topper assembly steps.
BOX ASSEMBLY
3. Prepare the hull shape by bending back on
all perforation lines for panels and triangle tabs,
except bend forward on front lip flanges
and punched tabs.
3. To help with correct positioning of the accent lid shape,
NOTE the small arrow symbol on the box hull
near/between the tie-on punch holes. The arrow
indicates the TOP or candy cane hook end placement.
Orient the accent panel so that the holes line up
with the holes of the hull lid area, then position
and attach in place, with narrow offset margin
all around between accent edge and perforation lines.
4. Form the box by bending at corners to bring straight
side edges to align at triangle perforation lines,
then glue in place.
Repeat to complete all 8 corners.
5. To close the box, orient with top upward,
then bend the base portion front and end wall flanges
inward slightly, closure tie hole punched tab remaining
bent outward. Bend  lid portion front flanges
outward. Hinge-pivot lid down over base until
lid end wall bottom edges or front flange perf ridge
match up with base flange perf lines.
FINISHING
6. To finish decorating the box, position candy cane
with hook end toward "top" of box as directed in
Step 2 (with arrow symbol pointing in hook direction).
Thread a length of twine up from lid underside,
around cane, down to backside again, etc.,
until twine is wrapped at upper and lower positions . . .
. . . then tie securely under lid. Use temporary glue
or adhesives to assist holding cane in place,
as deemed necessary.
7. Add gift contents, close lid, then align closure
tabs and punch holes and add soft ribbon knot
and bow.
Here is the completed box with candy cane topper.
