Snowflake Hanger 3D with LED Tall Candle

Requires 12x12 cutting capacity and stock. 

Both LED candle versions are shown in this post.

This rustic style home decoration can celebrate winter 

or Christmas, whether in its plain snowflake form, 

or with added faux candle, tall or short (tea light on tube). 

Hang from a chandelier, under a doorway arch or niche, 

in a series down a hallway ceiling. 

Multiple layers of snowflake with interior star main shape 

are carefully glued together to create a thick, sturdy hanger 

then pressed under a heavy flat weight until thoroughly dried.

 For the tall LED candle variation, a pocket is assembled 

from one- or two-piece shapes, and attached to the backside 

of snowflake’s modified center bottom arm. 

Tall candle (approx. 6.25” overall height x .75” diameter body) 

slips into pocket, with “flame” portion resting in 

hollow snowflake center. 

If desired, a hook shape (included in file) is assembled 

from several layers for thickness and strength, 

then inserted into top “eyelet” part of snowflake body, 

and attached by means of large jump ring to medium duty 

decorative chain for hanging. Or use ribbon, etc. 

Snowflake hanger measures approx. 11.8” tall x 10” wide when assembled. 

 NOTE: Consider cutting Snowflake Round Frame Orn 

(separate design) main shape at the same time -- 

centered in the snowflake’s middle hollow to “harvest” 

another snowflake series and reduce “waste” – 

position in the cutting layout BEFORE cutting main hanger shapes.

Assembly guide steps will demonstrate the tall candle insert

first. Shorter tea light in its faux candle stick assemble

will begin in Step 11.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:

A front & main hanger (5 total for thickness & strength)

B back hanger

C faux LED candle holder tube - 2-parts version

(narrower shapes for 2-part version can fit on 

12x12 card stock along sides of main hanger shape

to economize on paper use)

D Opt. cardstock hook (8 for thickness & strength)

2. Layer and glue together the front and main hanger

body shapes, working quickly to apply liquid adhesive

such as Tombo Aqua all around and near all edges.

Then quickly layer the first two cut shapes, aligning edges

as precisely as possible.

After each layer is added and finger-tip or roller pressed

all over, immediately press under a large heavy flat

weight (the size of this project may require more

than one object) on top of the glued-up stack while

the next shape has glue applied. Then remove flat 

weights to position and attach newest layer onto stack,

then reposition weights. Pressing in this manner will

help the shapes stay flat and straight, avoiding

warping or curling, etc. Leave weights in place for

several hours or over night until adhesive is dry.

3. Follow the same process to stack and glue optional

hook shapes, pressing stack under heavy weight

while drying.

4. If using the two-part candle tube holder, prepare

by bending back on all perforations for panels,

tabs, bottom "cover", etc.

Align side seam by overlapping the straight

edge (on right in this image) over the opposite

flange tab, adjust for top and bottom alignment

then join seam.

5. Form the holder into a tube to align and join

the second side seam.

6. Make sure the backside connector tabs are

bent outward, then . . . 

. . . bend bottom end tabs inward, apply glue to

outward surfaces of tabs, bend "cover" bottom

panel down into position . . . 

. . . and adjust wall edges

to match cover edges as precisely as possible,

then glue in place.

NOTE it will be helpful to insert a flat ended tool into

tube to help apply pressure (stand tube upright

on flat surface) on inside around bottom at tabs.

7. Apply glue to tube backside between

connector tabs, then . . . 

. . . position the completed holder tube, bottom downward,

at bottom arm of back hanger panel (where star

cut out is), and wrap . . .

. . . connector tabs around the arm edges.

Adjust so that arm bottom and tube bottom

edges align, then apply pressure to glue in place.

NOTE that inserting a rod-like tool such as a pencil

into the tube may be helpful in applying pressure

to thoroughly attach tube to hanger shape.

8. Apply glue to back hanger shape backside, then

position over the backside of the main/front stack,

adjust to align all cut edges as precisely as possible,

then apply pressure to securely attach in place

(including rod tool pressure inside tube).

Position flat weights again to help press layers and

keep hanger from curling or warping, until thoroughly dry.

9. Finish the tall candle hanger by sliding the faux

candle into position inside the tube.

Attach the hook (or substitute a metal finding hook)

to a length of chain, then hook through the top

hanger eyelet. 

11. Identify and cut the shapes for the tea light with

chunky candle stick:

A front & main hanger (5 total for thickness & strength)

B back hanger

C tea light faux candlestick tube

D Opt. cardstock hook (8 for thickness & strength)

12. Refer to Steps 2 & 3 to layer, press, and glue

together the front and main hanger layers, and

the optional hook stack, and press flat under

heavy weights.

13. Prepare the candle stick shape by bending back

on all perforations for panels, tabs, side flange,

top cover, etc., except bend the top recess platform

side walls forward.

14. Form the candlestick shape into a tube to

overlay straight edge across opposite flange tab,

adjust for top and bottom alignment, then glue seam.

15. At bottom, bend the end tabs inward,

apply pressure to outward surface of tabs,

then bend the bottom panel into place.

Adjust wall edges to match bottom panel

edges, and glue in place.

NOTE that it may be helpful to insert a rod like

tool into the tube to apply pressure to 

press tabs in place.

16. Apply glue to the underside of all platform

side tabs, including the attached tab, then . . .

. . . bend into the tube, and push downward . . .

. . . and adjust, until the tab edges align with tube edges.

Apply pressure to each segment until secure in place.

17. Prepare the candlestick tube by making sure

that the connector tabs are bent outward.

Also, identify the glue line cut mark.

Apply glue to the back panel below the line, then . . .

. . . position the candlestick at the top of the bottom

arm of back hanger shape . . .

. . . wrapping tabs around arm on each side

of triangle symbol cut out, with glue mark just hidden

at center ring circle cut edge. Glue tabs in place.

18. Apply glue to back hanger shape backside, then

position over the backside of the main/front stack,

adjust to align all cut edges as precisely as possible,

then apply pressure to securely attach in place

Position flat weights again to help press layers and

keep hanger from curling or warping, until thoroughly dry.

Attach the hook (or substitute a metal finding hook)

to a length of chain, then hook through the top

hanger eyelet. 

Insert LED tea light into the recessed top opening

of candlestick as shown.
