Princess Crown 3D Easel Card

A special dimensional card to send love or birthday greetings
to a favorite princess. Round card base has underneath panel
that bends to display the attached crown tipped,
crown front upward, at an angle.
Add sparkly jewel embellishments at filigree intersections,
on jewel points, and at base inside and out as desired.
Dahlia flower design peeks from platform top layer
Attach the double-layer sentiment panel with “Princess Wishes”
and star to provide the “stop” for the easel mechanism.
Card measures approx. 5” x 5” x 2.625” deep when closed.
Tuck the crown card inside a custom-fit
container companion design (Box 3D Hex Swirl Top Crowns).

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A card base two-part circle with perforations
B front card base circle  C back card base circle
D front offset accent with "jewel" cutouts
E jewel "fill in" shapes (opt. underlay ring also included)
F & G whole and half circle offset interior accents
H stop panel (2-3) I Princess Wishes word cuts
J star accents
K front crown with optional jewel add-ons (8)
L crown base
M rim ring strip (crown attaches to this flange)
N crown base circle (with center hole for flower alignment)
O flower center, petals (12), hex top, top circle
2. Prepare the card base by bending the base circle
forward (face sides together) at center short perf
and mid-front long perforation line.
Become familiar with how the easel action will
configure, as shown here.
3. Position and attach the FRONT circle to the forward
half only of the front panel of the base circle.
NOTE: as shapes are attached, when using liquid glue
it will be important to press them flat under a heavy
weight such as a book, etc., while drying.
(See image in step 7.)
4. Position and attach the back bottom circle
to the backside of card base, face side outward.
5. Open the card assembly flat to position and
attach the whole and half circle accents inside.
6. Position and attach the front card offset circle
with jewel cutouts onto the card front. Then . . .
. . . position and attach the jewel shapes into the 'windows'.
(The alternative way to have accent jewels with less
fussiness or cutting is to use the contrast ring shape,
which for this project would be cut from the violet card stock.)
7. Layer and attach the 2 or 3 'stop' panel shapes
taking care to align the cut edges as precisely
as possible. A thick edge will be needed to help keep
the easel edge in place when the card is displayed.
It may be helpful here, and other places in the assembly
to use heavy flat weights placed on top of the glued-up
shapes to help keep them flat and avoid warping or
curling as liquid glue dries.
8. Layer the star shapes, then position and attach
the Princess Wishes sentiment and star onto the front
of the stop panel assembly. (Before pressing is advisable.
9. Position and attach the stop shape at the front edge
centered with a narrow offset, as shown.
Here is a preview of how the base card will function
as the easel display.
10. To begin the rim ring (flange) attachment assembly,
add some curl to the rim ring shape, face side outward.
11. Bend the edge tabs back.
12. Form the strip into a ring to overlap the straight edge
to the short dash cut line of opposite end tab,
align top straight cut edges, and glue seam.
13. Prepare the center circle by positioning and attaching
the shapes the create the flower. Begin with the center
flower shape, using the center circles to align. Then . . .
. . . Position and attach each of the 12 petals into
the 'V' shapes, tucking them in snugly.
Add the hex center, with tallest dimension on
the vertical center (points at a petal tip at top and
bottom), then add the contrast circle and the hear cutout.
14. Make sure the rim ring tabs are bent perpendicular
toward the center, then . . .
. . . apply glue on the inside of the ring to
the backside of the tabs so that . . .
. . . the flower center circle can slip inside of the ring's rim
and fill up the space fully, forcing the ring to conform
to the 'perfect' circle.
Apply fingertip pressure to the edge where the backside
of the circle will attach to the glue-applied surface of
the rim ring tabs. NOTE: it may be helpful to search out
a household cup or mug, etc., that fits just inside the rim
to place (inverted) inside the assembly to help weight
the edge until the entire seam is completely joined.
Here you can see the underside of the assembly.
15. Position the flower/rim ring assembly onto the card front
and center it, then attach securely in place.
16. Prepare the crown layers by gently adding curl
to pre-form them into the circular shape that
will be needed.

Add curl to  crown base as well.
NOTE: a design dilemma is layering the tiara shapes
for strength, but getting them to wrap around the ring flange
without having the main shape come up short at the ends
(think racers on an oval track - those on outside run farther).
Adding curl will assist management of this fact.
However, if the two shapes are layered prior to adding curl
or simply trying to wrap into a ring form will usually result
in the adhesive to fail and the shapes to 'pop' apart.
Designing the main crown with 'open' bottom front,
adding curl the each shape, and attaching separately
are attempts to minimize the slight shortness of outer crown.
17. Position and attach the crown base to the rim ring
flange, beginning at CENTER TOP of card front, and
wrapping toward center bottom.
18. Position and attach the crown front layer over
the crown base, beginning at CENTER FRONT,
matching base edges, and encouraging the back
center edges to match up as base edges did.
(In this image, you can see how the crown is positioned
CENTER FRONT to the top of the card front.
19. Add the jewel cut out shapes over the pointed
jewel positions of crown front, if designed. OR . . .
. . . use purchased jewel studs such as these,
cut apart, to place over the jewel positions,
filligree intersections, crown inner and outer base
edges. (See embellishments in next image.)
20. Display the card in easel form by raising front panel
and sliding the front edge to 'catch' at the stop top edge.
Close it flat for giving.
Here is the front high view of completed card.
Finish the special princess crown gift by building the custom
designed companion hexagon box.
Here are completed, closed crown easel card
with companion box, closed.

  1. I'm so glad I found your blog. Do you know if the pattern from svgattic SDS Winter Tudor House was going to be added to the silhouette designer website? Or is it under a different name? Thank you for any help.

    1. Heather, thanks for your interest. That design was created by one of the SnapDragon Snippets owners shortly before she sort of had her experience with Silhouette America turn sour. She does not think the small return we receive for each download would be recompensed adequately, so it is unlikely. However, I will ask a couple of questions here or there and see if there is any thawing of sentiments. I will come back here to report it if there is.
