Box Small 3D Petals Lid

Curved bends shaping on lid of this small gift box
suggests six graceful petals like a simplified poinsettia blossom.
Lid fits snuggly over hexagon base.
Dress it up with accent shapes to lower base sides,
lid side walls, and dome
(Sample shown has base cut along a border print
without additional accent shapes.)
Add a jewel or stud at lid center intersections.
A hexagon interior liner is also included for the base
(with an insert under lid to hide petal construction).
Measures approx. 3” deep x 3.5” wide x 3.25” tall
when completed.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A lid strip with curved "blossom" perforations
B lid edge wall accents (6)
C under-lid concealer disc
D base strip
E base hexagon: 1 for interior, 1 for bottom as concealer
F interior liner accent
2. Prepare the BASE strip by bending back on all
perforations for wall panels, top rim tabs, bottom
construction tabs and side tab.
(NOTE: sample uses a border printed paper;
if using accent shapes, position and attach each
within the wall panels, at bottom, with narrow even
offset margin on bottom and sides.)
3. Bend back the top rim tabs and attach in place
to the backside of base strip, excluding the rim tab
that is opposite the side seam tab (this is folded
and joined in place after side seam is joined, in Step 5).
4. Form the base strip into a tube to bring the straight
side edge to overlap the side tab opposite to
perforation line, and join side seam.
5. Bend the final rim tab back to the interior of
the tube and glue in place.
6. On the bottom of the tube, bend the construction tabs
inward at a 90 degree angle.
7. Invert the base tube, apply glue to the backside/inner
surfaces of the construction tabs at bottom, then
insert the base hexagon into the tube . . .
. . . press down into place until the edges rest at the perforations at
the base of each wall panel, and press securely in place.
NOTE that it will be helpful to apply pressure to
tabs and hex edges with fingertip(s) inside the base.
8. On the underside of the base box, use the second
hexagon positioned and glued in place, to help
conceal the construction tabs.
9. If desired, insert, position and attach the accent
hexagon into the bottom of the base box.
10. Prepare the lid strip by bending back (mountain folds) on all
straight perforations for walls, rim tabs and side tabs.
Re-direct the long panel perforations as "valley" folds.
(See step 15.)
11. Carefully bend along the curved perforations
for the petal folds. NOTE that this is sometimes
easier to accomplish while working with the backside
facing the one doing assembly.
12. Position and attach the side wall accent shapes
in the side wall panels defined by the perforations.
13. Form the lid strip into a tube to bring the side straight
edge into position to overlap the side tabs to perforation lines,
and join the two parts of the side seam.
NOTE that the lid panel is symmetrical which will allow
it to be flattened so that fingertip pressure can be applied
along the side seam portions.
14. Un-flatten the lid form and bend the lower rim tabs
back to the inside and glue in place.
15. Re-direct the long straight fold between left and
right curve of "petal unit" to be a valley fold, then begin
to bend the upper lid sections inward . . .
. . . gathering the top straight edges into the center . . .
. . . until the petal points come together at the center.
NOTE: use caution during this part of assembly,
taking especial care NOT to press downward
which may cause perforations to teat away.
While holding the points together, allow slight opening
so that a dab of quick-grab adhesive such as the hot melt
glue shown here to be applied where all the point "wall"
edges can be joined, then pressing points back together again.
Hold in place until glue is cried or congealed.
16. Add decorative stud, dot or jewel at the center
to conceal the converging walls assembly.
17. If using the optional under-lid concealer, bend
the side tabs back, then apply glue to the tabs faces,
and also to the under-lid folds (ribs) and center "star".
Insert the disc into the underside of the lid
and hold in place until secure.
18. To close the box, slip the lid over the rim edges
of the base. NOTE this is designed to have a tight fit.
Here, again, is the completed blossom lid box.
