Corner Bookmark Happy Bat

Origami-style folds create the main corner bookmark shape
(fits over a page corner to reserve the position)
with a “footprint” of approx. 1 1/2” square,
shaped at the top with a quarter-circle cutout
that suggests ears, where the page corner shows thru.
Wing extensions from the main shape back folds
show at sides, with a narrow offset wings base to which
the wings backside attach to lock the bat shape.
On front, mouth and cheek cutouts show through
the “liner” shapes that are attached on main shape underside.
Eye circles (with opt. lashes base shapes) are attached
in place above fang-y smile.
Overall bookmark size is 3 13/16” across, 1 3/4” tall at center.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A main bookmark base shape with wings
B smile opening liner shape
C cheeks opening liner
D fangs tab
E pupil circles plus lashes optional accent
F wings seam connector bridge oval
G offset back base shape
2. Prepare the bookmark main shape by bending
on the "square" folds on each side of the face
as mountain folds, and the second folds as
valley folds.
3. Bend the fang corners back so they hang down
at the top of the connector tab.
4. Insert the tab through mouth opening then
direct it downward behind face panel until fang
perforations catch at lower mouth opening.
Glue tab in place to panel backside,
and fangs to face side.
Here is how the fangs should look with tab
concealed behind the face panel.
This frame shows the tab attached below
mouth opening on panel backside.
NOTE the tab has been shortened in
the final file.
5. Position and attach the mouth opening contrast
liner behind the mouth opening . . .
. . . as shown here from backside.
6. Position and attach the cheeks contrast liner
shape, centered within the face panel as defined
by cut edges and perforation folds.
7. Prepare eye units, if desired, by positioning and
attaching the contrast pupils on top of the lashes
base shapes for left and right eyes.
8. Position and attach eyes in balanced fashion
above smile.
9. Bend the back side and wing extensions into
place by refolding on the perforation lines.
NOTE: the second folds should come together
at the back centerline.
10. Position and attach the connector bridge oval on top
of the abutted folds, centered from top to bottom.
Also apply glue between the wings and side back
panels where the two overlap, and join.
11. Position and attach the front assembly over
the wings offset base, with narrow offset all around.
NOTE that the front and side back panels MUST
maintain free space for the corner to be inserted
over the page corner as intended.

Here is the bookmark demonstrated on the corner
of a seasonal postcard.
