Gable Latch Top Boxes

Large size gift box holds approx. 16 oz. of cookies or 

bulkier loose candy or goodies. 

Medium size gift box holds approx. 2 cups of

 loose candy and the like. 

Both have very similar features and assembly.

 Large box is constructed of two large panels that are joined.

Medium box has a "welded" panel. 

Each has a front rounded-edge window, clear window panel, 

latch bottom, gable top side panels, 

double wing and slot top closure,

offset accent overlay panels for front and back hull. 

Cut the hull shapes from 12x12 card stock.

The large tote will be explained first, with brief

descriptions of differences for medium tote following.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes for large tote:

A front tote hull   B back tote hull

C clear vinyl window panel

D front accent offset panel

E back accent offset panel

F side accent offset panels (2)

G optional circle seal   

H optional cutout from window of  D (for gift tag)

2. Prepare the hull shapes by bending back on l panel

and tab perforation lines (except for angled top lines), including . . . 

. . . the double tab closure at top of front panel.

At side top, bend back at cross perforations,

and on angled seams bend forward, as "mountain" folds.

3. Join the front and back hull panels along one side seam,

taking care to overlap straight side edge across opposite 

flange, adjusting to make sure bottom panel perforations

align.

4. Position and attach the offset accent panels to

back, sides and front, centering and checking

that outer edges are offset approx. .12" inward.

NOTE that window cutout of accent should align

exactly with hull window cutout edges.

5. Apply double-stick tape next to window cutout,

 then position (centered) over backside of

front hull panel window cutout, and attach in place.

6. Form the hull assembly into a tube to bring remaining

side seam straight edge to overlay opposite flange,

and join side seam.

NOTE that the hull can be flattened on working surface

so that fingertip pressure can be applied along seam.

7. Apply adhesive (double-stick tape shown here) to

the underside of each bottom latch long panel extension,

and onto face surface of side flaps, then . . . 

. . . bend side flaps inward to perpendicular . . . 

. . . fold long flaps inward so that they interlock

as shown, then apply pressure to join bottom sections.

If needed, reach inside to apply pressure to attach.

8. To close the container, fold the back top section

inward, then fold the front top section inward, with

top/outer flap bending downward so that the tab can fit

into the bottom slot, and . . . 

. . . the cut-in tab can bend down into the top slot.

NOTE that it will be helpful to assist the top portions

of front and back hull panels to "curl" slightly inward

where they need to conform to the gable shaping.

10. To use the "waste" portion of the front accent panel,

folded in half, then . . . 

. . . paper punched to attach with ribbon or string

to hull (use cello tape, decorative sticker or seal,

or punch a hole near angled walls of one front gable.

11. If desired, once tote is filled and latch tabs

inserted into slots, secure with decorative sticker seal.

MEDIUM TOTE ASSEMBLY

11. Identify and cut the shapes:

A one-piece front & back hull

B clear window panel

C front accent shape  D front window accent rim

E back accent shape   F side accent shape (2)

G optional closure seam

H optional retained waste panel from D as gift card

12. Follow assembly steps 1-2, 4 (attach window rim after front

accent shape is attached to front hull, as shown below), 

5-11 for large tote).

Dual Compartment Gift Box Expressly to You

Rectangular box has lid envelope outline decoration 

with optional whole base, heart “cancel” stamp 

and arch word cut out “Expressly to You”. 

Box sides include “gingerbread” outline decorations, 

with side end windows (lined with clear panel) 

to allow viewing of contents inside the main square compartment 

and smaller rectangular compartment. 

Box is designed as tray with attached lid 

with front flap that tucks behind front wall, 

sized to fit as companion container for 

“Postman Cap 3D Easel Card” separate design.  

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:

A box base (bottom, sides and front/back)

NOT SHOWN: side flanges left & right to attach

B box top panel (flap)

C interior compartment (final shape is slightly modified)

D outline 'icing' shapes for walls (2 sides, front, back)

E clear acetate or vinyl window panels (2)

F lid accent envelope shape solid base

G envelope accent outline

H doily flap (final shape is slightly modified)

I "Expressly to You" word cut.

2. Prepare the main box base shape by bending back on

all panel and tab perforation lines.

2. Position and attach the 'icing' outline accent shapes

onto their corresponding sides, front and back panels.

3. Prepare the add-on side flanges by bending back

 on the long perforation lines. Position and attach

the long tab behind the side wall, at top margin above

window openings, and secure in place as firmly as

possible. Strong adhesive such as Fabri-Tack is recommended,

using weights or clamps to hold in place until fully dry.

(Side flanges will be stressed as they are bent inward/outward.)

4. Prepare the clear window panels by affixing

double-sided adhesive such as the 1/8" Kool Tak

tape shown, along edge, then . . . 

. . . position and attach, centered over inside face

of side panels, to cover window area.

(NOTE: attached side flange tabs should already be in place.)

5. Form the base into a tray by bending walls and

 tabs inward to bring straight side edge to overlap

corresponding tab to perforation line, and attaching.

6. Prepare the lid decoration by layering the envelope

outline and base shapes and attaching.

Also layer the separate heart onto the 'cancelled' 

stamp base and attach.

Position and attach the doily flap centered along top

edge of envelope assembly, then . . . 

. . . arrange the cancel stamp and word arch

as desired, and attach in place.

7. Prepare the LID shape by bending back along

flap tab (front) and back flange.

Position and attach envelope accent assembly,

centered, onto LID panel.

(Recommended to press these shapes under

a heavy flat object such as a thick book until dry,

if using liquid adhesives.)

8. Position and attach the back flange behind 

the back wall of the base tray, using strong adhesive

and weighting or clamping to ensure strong bond.

9. Prepare the compartment shape by bending

back on all panel and tab perforation lines.

(NOTE: the final cut shape has been modified.)

10. Bend adjacent sides into position to align

and join the two corner seams.

11. Apply adhesive to the front and back walls, and bottom panel,

then insert and position the compartment into the box base

interior so that right edges abut right box wall, front

and back compartment walls attach to box front and back walls.

Apply pressure to ensure attachment to walls and bottom.

12. To close the box, bend side wall flanges inward

at right angle, and bend lid downward . . . 

. . . until front flap flange can tuck inside front wall.

The window clear panel features allow the contents

of the box side and . . . 

. . . main compartments to be viewed,

even when the box is closed.

Select and insert desired contents.
