Scallop Brim 3D Hat Easel Card

Round scalloped-edge card has layered under-lid panel
that bends to prop up the “attached” wide-brim
Spring season 3D hat. (Build the hat’s crown
by joining and shaping wedges into two halves,
before joining halve, then inserting through the brim ring,
adding scalloped brim rim at edge.)
Attach the double layer sentiment panel with
“Happy Easter” word cut and layered tulip
to provide the “stop” for the easel mechanism.
Decorate with included hat band.
Add blossom buds and leaves as desired for
this extra special card suitable for Easter – or
substitute the sentiment word cuts from
“Arch Down Curve Sentiments Quartet” to customize
for birthday, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, get well,
appreciation and more.
Card measures approx. 5” x 5” x 1.25” tall when closed.
“Round Hat Box 3D Tote” design is available
for a custom-fit way to give this unique style card.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Identify and cut the shapes:
A "mechanism" card base
B back reinforcement layer   C front card panel
D & E interior offset accent panels
F "stop" panel which assists easel propping (2)
G Happy Easter welded word cuts
H tulip accent shapes: stem base, leaf, petals base, petals
I hat brim  J hat brim accent quarters (4)
(NOTE a whole brim rim shape included if preferred)
K crown wedges (8)  L hat band halves (2)
2. Prepare the mechanism base shape by bending forward
at the center perforation, and back at the top half perf line.
3. Position the front panel on top of the mechanism
shape half panel, align edges that should match up
(scallop edge) and glue together the portions that overlap.
4. Position, align and attach the back reinforcement panel
on the backside of the front/mechanism assembly.
5. Position the whole circle accent over the inside
of the bottom card assembly, offset in from scallop
edges, and half circle over the lower half of the mechanism
with straight edge aligned at perforation fold,
offset in from scallop edges, and attach each.
6. Prepare the "stop" panel by layering and attaching
the panel shapes. NOTE that it will be helpful, if using
liquid adhesive, to place this glued-up shape under
a flat heavy object to press until completely dry
to avoid warping or curling.
7. Assemble the tulip accent by layering and attaching
the leaf over the matching portion of the stem/blossom base,
layering the whole blossom onto base, then the two
single petal shapes, one then the other.
(See the next frame for completed tulip.)
8. Position and attach the "Happy Easter" word cuts
offset along the lower edge of the stop panel assembly,
while at the same time positioning and attaching the tulip.
9. Position and attach the quarter-rim shapes
(or alternatively the whole rim shape) at the edge
of the brim shape. Press under a flat weight if possible.
10. Prepare the hat crown shapes by bending back
on all the perforation lines for panels and tabs,
and forward at the bottom tab.
11. Prepare to join the first two wedge shapes by
lining up the lower widest segments, overlapping the straight
side edge (right) over the corresponding tab (left)
to perforation line, adjusting for top to bottom alignment,
and gluing that portion of the seam.
12. Continue the seam sequence by bending back
the two upper portions of both wedges to align the straight
edge to tab's perf line, and gluing in place. Then . . .
. . . repeat for the remaining two segments of the seam.
13. Repeat steps 11-12 for the next wedge, and then
for a fourth to create a half dome.
14. Repeat to complete a second half dome.
15. Line up the two halves as shown, with center tops
aligned, then interlock the edges as the straight edges
are overlapped over corresponding tab at top segments.
Push the halves together, and press downward slightly
to straighten the seam, then glue together the top centers only.
16. Align and join the final three segments on each
of the half seams to complete the dome.
17. Position the brim assembly over the dome shape
and slide down fully into position at the tab angle . . .
. . . then attach each of the tabs underneath the brim . . .
. . . inverting the assembly and applying fingertip pressure
along each facet until the brim and crown are fully joined.
18. Prepare the hat band shapes by bending back slightly
at the three perforations.
19. Position the band halves at the base of the crown
with bends aligned at wedge angles, and glue in place.
NOTE: depending on paper thicknesses, trim any excess
band that extends beyond the wedge seams on each end.
20. Position and attach the hat over the card base
front panel, with slight offset at the scallop edge.
21. Open the card and employ the easel by allowing
the front/lower edge of card front to touch and stop at
the top of the "stop" panel, as shown.
22. Add purchased florals and leaves as desired.
Here is the completed easel card with
companion round hat box container for giving the card.

    1. Judy, yes available from Silhouette America's online store. Not sure how their svg format (which we comply with when submitting designs) will work with ScanNCut machines. Good luck.
